Overview:
The Red Wings entered Thursday with the NHL's top power play (31.8%) and sixth-best on the penalty kill (93.3%). The Hawks haven't scored a power-play goal in 10 chances and rank 21st on the penalty kill (76.5%).
Dominik Hasek will start in goal tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks. "Tomorrow, Dom starts," Babcock said after Thursday's practice at Joe Louis Arena. "Then (Sunday night) in L.A., Ozzie will start." Hasek didn't play in Wednesday night's 4-2 victory because of a bruise above his left knee. Instead, Chris Osgood made his first start of the season. "Felt much better today," Hasek said. "I could do everything on the ice. I could go up and down quickly, make second and third saves. "I still could feel it a little bit, but no problem at all. So I'm ready to go."
The Wings got a close-up look at the future of the Blackhawks on Saturday when Patrick Kane got an assist and scored the lone shoot-out goal to beat the Wings, 4-3. Tonight, the Wings will get to see the other Chicago rookie who is expected to make a big impact, forward Jonathan Toews, the third overall pick of the 2006 draft. Babcock said he hasn't seen Toews play live, "But from everything I've heard about him ... he's the real deal. So those kids are going to play with some pace and some energy."
The key player for Chicago, in Babcock's mind, is goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin. "It looks like Khabibulin, who's their best player, is playing well," Babcock said. "You know, sometimes they call it hockey. Sometimes they call it goaltending."
