First game of the season!
Montreal – No significant injuries. Carolina - No significant injuries.
+ This marks Carolina’s fourth season opener at home since moving into the RBC Center in October 1999. The team has posted a 1-1-2 record in such games, most recently suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 4, 2006. The Hurricanes’ lone season opening win at the RBC Center came on Oct. 5, 2001, a 3-1 triumph against the New York Rangers. Since joining the NHL in 1979, the Hurricanes franchise has gone 6-15-6 in season openers, including a 4-5-5 mark in season openers played at home.
+ Including the postseason, the Hurricanes have gone 11-3-0 in their last 14 meetings against Montreal. Carolina went 4-0-0 against the Canadiens in the 2005-06 regular season, 4-2 in the teams’ 2006 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals best-of-seven playoff series and 3-1-0 in last year’s four-game regular-season series.
+ Carolina finished the 2007 exhibition season ranked fourth among the 30 NHL teams in penalty-killing efficiency. The Hurricanes killed of 29-of-32 power plays it faced during its six-game preseason schedule. Carolina’s penalty kill finished the 2006-07 season ranked tied for sixth in the NHL, stopping 84.6 percent of opponents’ power plays.
+ Carolina’s opening night roster consists of 21 players that played at least nine games with the Hurricanes in 2006-07. Free-agent signee Jeff Hamilton and reacquired center Matt Cullen are the only two Carolina players in Wednesday’s lineup who did not play for the Hurricanes last season.
+ The Hurricanes’ 2-1 shootout win against Columbus, which ended when Andrew Ladd scored the only shootout goal for either team in the nine-round shootout, was Carolina’s first shootout win since April 14, 2006. The Hurricanes went 0-for-5 in games decided by the shootout in 2006-07 after going 8-2 in games decided by shootout in 2005-06

That's what I get for trying to make one at work while my coworker is on break. To paraphrase the great Wayne Brady: "DaveG gonna have to choke a *****?"

I gotta have a way to represent from Rochester. I'm on a what...a 3 year streak now?

No question. I'm calling my coworker the *****. She went and jumped at going to lunch halfway through me making one and all hell broke lose... of course.
But anyway, I'll be there, I may even throw out a "You Suck Tanabe" for no apparent reason so your presence can be felt.
I am so excited for tonight I am going to break out the Cole sweater for the first time since the cup run....I usually keep it clean til the playoffs, but will wear it in Game 1 to set the tone, then stow it away until late April.....
Go Canes!!!!!!
And screw all those so called "experts" on their picks of the Canes to finish terribly this year (except Burnside). No respect again, just like the Cup year....
Anyone else putting a 20 spot on the canes to win the cup at 40-1????

MAYBE a ten spot. I usually don't gamble asside from drunken poker games and NCAA tourny pools.
im so anxious ive been watching preseason center ice on my computer. this is so my favorite day of the year.... i believe the rockies have their first playoff game in my ten years here today...and i have the day off. bliss. ill be on the couch if anyone needs me.
Over a few leauges I have Cole, Stillman, Ladd, Staal, Ward, Kaberle, Commodore and Walker
Only issue is going to be getting near one of the TVs in the bar on the 1st floor of the RBC at intermission to get updates on my Sox. Hockey of course takes the top priority, but it's the playoffs, I'll be damned if I'm not watching the Sox between the periods.
im torn on the baseball thing. born and raised sox fan, but you cant help but get caught up in rockies fever. watching both bball games and the canes will be overkill i think - but in the best way possible.
Nice GDT! You have Huet and Ward stats backwards, though. Or, you could swap the photos
I was beginning to wonder when you'd show up today, bleedgreen! I watched a few innings of that Rockies/Padres tilt the other night and that game almost made me come back from my baseball exile. I swore the sport off after the Rick Ankiel revelation. The sport just seems to dirty for me to care about anymore, and baseball was my first love
With that said: be darn, Mr. Holliday for stealing Mr. Jones batting title :-P
watching the rockies grow up the last couple of years has drawn me back in. its been harder to follow the sox out here, and baseball hasnt been that big to me while ive been out here. monday nights play in game was one of the most exciting games ive ever watched, i hope we keep this team together for awhile.
i took some time off the canes board here, i wasnt really having fun in the conversations i was getting sucked into. felt like i was repeatedly hitting my head against a brick wall. now we can get back to business.
Sounds like there has been a shuffle at the top of our lines, Whitney / Brind'Amour / Williams will now be our "#1" line and Stillman / Staal / Cole will be our "#2" line. I added the quotation marks because you can't really say either one of those lines is any less talented than the other. With that said, the franchise player and a certified Canadien killer on the second-line should offset whatever Montreal can counter with.
