The San Jose Sharks announced today that the club has added former Sharks players Mike Ricci and Bryan Marchment to the San Jose hockey department staff.

Ricci will serve as Advisor to Hockey Operations while Marchment has been named Scout and Player Development.

Mush & Reech, back workin' in Teal Town - frickin' awesome

Now we just need to get Harv to join the broadcast staff

Marchment gets a role in player development.

So I guess that he's the "Coach of Mean"?

The D could use a little "edge"....seriously.

Anyhow, that's awesome news. I can get my Ricci jersey signed finally.

Gotta love this news, Ricci comming back to the team in any capasity is the best thing I've heard in some time. Marchment is mere gravy right now. I hope he hosts Shark Byte, that would be awsome

"Despite the lack of toughness on the ice the sharks have added much needed grit and muscle to front office."

Im quoting my self. I really hope they can turn patty and joe in to mean machines. As well as help Carle and Erhoff defensively.

Petrecki is a much bigger and a much better skating version of Marchment, but still maybe he can teach Nick a few little things.

we now have more heart/grit off the ice.

I can see practices now:
Hunter: you can't skate!
Marchment: why don't you show me how to skate and i'll knee your @$$!
Ricci: stop it, let me cycle the puck.

"Ricci, in his new role, will serve as a consultant to the club's hockey operations department and assist in player development. He will also serve various roles within the organization, including marketing, promotions and community relations."

He's SJ Sharkie!

Wilson's next major signing:
Damphousse (need to show players how to hook)

So what exactly is "player development"? Will they be assisting the coaching staff? It seems like a very vague term to me.

Too bad we can't transplant their heart and never-say-die attitude to some of the current players. They have more grit in the staff than they do on the ice.

I wonder how the news of Ricci coming back to the Sharks would have affected the ATFS Poll he lost to Thornton in.

I looked for the Thread of that poll, but could not find it. Does anyone know the reason that would have been deleted?

Ricci's new role may be "everything and anything".

Reeeecchh!! Great to have my favorite player back on the Sharks. Having these two team-spirited guys will make our organization better, which filters down to the players on the ice. Maybe there can be a segment on SharkByte featuring Ricci?

Wilson said he decided to bring Ricci back because of his “no BS” factor, how he always dealt with teammates and the respect all opponents had for him.

Amen to that.

“My only personal goals are to repay the Sharks organization and the Bay Area,” said Ricci. “San Jose has a big place in my heart. When I was traded to San Jose, my buddies said I wasn’t much of a California boy, but it’s now known as a hockey town and there is so much hunting and fishing. We want to raise our kids here.”
