I think the word "cook" in this song may be a euphemism:
If You Wanna Be Happy
performed by Jimmy Soul
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he married her and then she starts
To do the things that will break his heart
But if you make an ugly woman your wife
A-you'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you peace of mind
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
Don't let your friends say you have no taste
Go ahead and marry anyway
Though her face is ugly, her eyes don't match
Take it from me, she's a better catch
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
Spoken:
Say man!
Hey baby!
I saw your wife the other day!
Yeah?
Yeah, an' she's ug-leeee!
Yeah, she's ugly, but she sure can cook, baby!
Yeah, alright!
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
Slide Away by Oasis
Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks
Factory Girl by Whiskeytown
Sweet Thing by Van Morrison
Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley version)
Lover You Should Have Come Over Jeff Buckley
If we're considering Van Morrison "rock," then I suggest adding, in addition to "Sweet Thing:"
And It Stoned Me
Crazy Love
I Wanna Roo You
Straight To Your Heart Like A Cannonbal
Into The Mystic
or just about anything he's ever done. The stuff he did while living the Bohemian life with Janet Planet is something sweet. I say we confine ourselves to "rock," unless I can include "You've Made Me So Very Happy" by Blood, Sweat & Tears. Nobody is better to belt out in song to than David Clayton-Thomas in that tune. I also get Carole King doing "I Feel The Earth Move." I feel all sexy when I sing that song.
On a serious note (not sure I want to meet the people who consider "Hair of the Dog" romantic). I always thought "Rosalita" was a top-notch, feel-good, upbeat love song. No shame in humming that one at the bar. A lot of stuff he did early on was great, and then he got his backside on an album cover and went down the crapper. He used to be a poet.
A few others upbeat ones:
49 Bye-Byes and Pre-Road Downs by CSN.
It's tough, as most of this stuff is created due to pain and suffering.
I've had to put down three radios because of "Wonderful Tonight." I didn't want to do it, but I felt I owed it to humanity.
"Layla" is pretty passionate if you need something uptempo. Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell" is nice, "Moondance" from Van Morrison and just about anything from "Tupelo Honey" is good too.
Doors - Light My Fire (kinda overdone, though)
Chicago - pretty much anything, if you want a kinda sappy one
Atlanta Rhythm Section - So into You
Van Morrison also had plenty
And of course the beatles too
Blood Sweat and Tears - You Make me so very happy
Todd Rundgren - I saw the light
Rightous Brothers - Unchained Melody
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla and other assorted love songs (the whole damn album)
Moody Blues - Nights in White satin
Seals and Crofts - Get Closer, Diamond Girl
heres a great one..
Gordon Lightfoot - Beautiful
If she has a name, you shuold try to find a song with her name in it

Yeah, there are some who would say that Lifehouse is a Christian Band.
There's nothing wrong with christian bands... I'm a big fan of Sixpence None The Richer, and not for their message or anything like that, but for their music and sound. :-p

Always got a chuckle from this song. Jimmy Soul, right? Can you imagine when the writer put that lyric down in writing? "Hey honey, help me with this....Don't let your friends say you have no taste, da-dad-dy-da, then though her face is ugly, her eyes don't match, take it from me she's a better catch."
I figure the lyric writer was pretty close to death by the time the song was finished.
