Do you want to see the Blackhawks draft Citizen Kane?

I was going to post this in the off-season. Since we have another off day and the board seems ready to debate Beaver Tails vs. Beef on Weck…

Do you want to see the Blackhawks draft Patrick Kane?

I think he represents how much WNY hockey has grown. I remember, as a kid, having coaches run practices from the bench because they didn’t know how to skate. This was the 70s/early 80s and the Sabres were the catalyst for increased participation in youth hockey.

I don’t think the area could have produced a prospect like Kane back then. Now we’ve had a generation or two of hockey players grow up and learn the game. We’ve seen an increase in locals get drafted in the last few years and Kane is the cream of the crop. (Kind of like the Sabres, Tom Renney. )

I think having a guy from Buffalo go number one in the draft would be amazing. (Only winning a certain trophy would make me more excited.)

However, I want to see Kane do well in the NHL. With Chicago’s ownership, is that the best place for him to succeed? I don’t know.

I do know that if the Blackhawks draft him, they become my favorite Western team.

Hawks may trade the first pick to get some guys who could win now and not in 5 years

I really don't think the hawks have any shot at winning it now, their best chance is to build for the future imo.

I'd much rather see Kane a hawk and not a flyer, I don't want to end up hating him

I'd rather see Kane a Blackhawk just for the distinction of Buffalo producing the the #1 draft pick.

Aside from that I'm torn. At least he'd be noticed and appreciated in Philly. Chicago is a hockey wasteland, where players go to fall of the map entirely.

On the other hand, maybe he can help finally rebuild that franchise. It's a terrible shame what has happened to that Original Six town, and I'd love to see it become a great hockey town once again.

yes i want to see him a blackhawk because the blackhawks are my second favorite team in the nhl and i think they are headed in the right direction, and wirtz has been debating selling the team. if anyone with any sort of clue runs that team it could be rebuilt fairly quickly.

If he's not going to Buffalo, then there's nowhere else I'd rather see him go than Chicago. The 'Hawks need some excitement, and they've been crap for too many years to count.

As much as I'd love to see him in Buffalo (reup Briere for 1 year, trade Briere and our pick from Philly for the 1st overall ) Chicago has a good future with a solid young D already on the big club in Seabrook, Keith and Barker and a good flock of prospects in Skille, Toews, Blunden, Byfuglin(sp?), and Bolland.

Would Max, Ales and our first pick (early 2nd rounder) get us the number one pick?

nope. I would expect it would be something like:

Tallinder
Afinogenov
2007 1st rounder
2008 1st rounder

Yup. Of course, given the way pick seeding works now, Philly's 2nd (#31) isn't all that far away from whatever our 1st this year (#28-#30) would be. I would consider them a basically a push, trade wise.

As long as it's in the West, I don't really care where he goes. Preferably a hockey city (Detroit, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Minnesota)

I dunno about that. There's no Crosby / Ovechkin / Kovalchuk / Malkin type stud in this draft. Cherapanov is as close as it gets. I don't think Kane will go #1, maybe #2, most likely #3 or #4. Regular season is one thing, but small guys do tend to score a bit less when the playoff style gets tighter.

Well, he is either going to Chicago,Philly,Phoenix,LA, or Washington.

Isn't Turris projected to be the #1 pick now and kane #2? Good chance he is going to Philly. Imagine if he goes 4th and goes to LA, their roster would be stacked with young talent.

I'd rather not see Kane in a Flyer uniform, but the kid has earned his way to the top of the draft and the Flyers have, ummm, earned the right to the #2 pick. If he winds up there, so be it. Ditto Chicago.

It'll be interesting to play the "he wants to go home to play" card in UFA debates for once.

i would MUCH rather he go there because i DON'T want them to draft Voracek.

I am a Halifax Mooseheads season ticket holder, and i want to see Voracek back for at LEAST another year, so i want the Hawks to draft Kane and the Flyers to draft Voracek (even though the idea of Voracek in a flyers jersey makes me spew a little in my mouth).

The hawks want someone to step in quickly and the flyers don't.

I really, really hope you're joking.

While Kane is a very good prospect, he's not the highest tier talent.

In weaker drafts like this, you'd be surprised what a player like Afinogenov is worth. I would say that in terms of picks 3-10 in this draft, if a team really wanted Maxim, he could get you that pick. It all comes down to a team really wanting your roster player, especially in a weak draft, especially a team with cap room.

Not a chance in hell you could trade Max straight up for a top 10 pick. I think what was suggested earlier is a little overboard but Max/2nd round pick/1st next year would get it done IMO.

I can't see too many GMs throwing away 2nd and 1st rounders in next years draft.

Although Max is a year or two too old for a straight up deal, it could be done.

Honestly, I think it'd be great if he went to Chicago. It's an awesome town, and I want to see if they can get it going again. Toews, Skille, Kane...not a bad start to the future.

It's close enough to me that I could make the drive.
Plus the last game I watched them play, they had plenty of seats available...

I'm not saying it's something I would want to do, but to move up and get the top overall pick, that's what you gotta give.

Chicago is fine with me. If we can't have him, put him on a weak western conference squad.
