The Superdraft is this morning, Toronto is on the clock.
I've read up on a few players available, Maurice Edu is one who is supposed to be a great player, and a guy from Guelph I think, Jeffrey Gonsalvez, he tore up the NCAA.
Because of the strong ethnic background in the GTA this will be the best soccer around and hopefully it doesnt flop, myself I am not a huge soccer fan but I will watch a few games on T.V and possibly in take in a few games over the next few years
I think this is going to flop. Soccer fans in the GTA want to watch the club teams from there cultural background not young players from Canada that are inferior when compared to soccer in other places. Not to mention MLS&E runs this thing so that means the team isn't going to be any good.
They've already sold in the ballpark of 7000 season tickets. They may flop in the future but they have a strong base for this year already. Don't underestimate the talent pool in Canada. The crowds when they play the Galaxy should cover the rest of the year's expenses anyway

Anwyone know of a hockeysfuture equivallent for MLS?
Well this is good. Gives me another sport to follow during the summer. Not really a fan of soccer (mostly because I don't have a team to support). I watch some of the international tournaments just for the heck of it. This gives me a team to root for so why not?

My thoughts exactly. I've played soccer for years but have never been able to develop a bond with any one team enough to care or watch it on tv. Now that there is a Canadian team they can join the ranks of the Jays, Raps and Leafs as teams I follow.
Toronto FC selected M Maurice Edu with the first overall pick.
How is he?
He was the unanimous best player available so that bodes well. Hes a defensive midfielder and what impressed me was that during interviews he seemed like an incredibly well spoken young man.

Sure, like the Leafs always sucked the past 8-9 years. They've already hired a very good coach, so they are already on the way of being good.
1. Maurice Edu, midfielder, Maryland* -- Without a must-have player at the top of the pool, Edu has become the probable No. 1 almost by default. Most MLS coaches have him as the top player in the pool, but this is by no means a dead solid lock. Greg Dalby is a classy midfielder who can control and dominate a game from deep in the midfielder.
8. Andrew Boyens, defender, New Mexico -- Previously ranked the best defender on the board and is now dropping down because he skipped the combine and is said to be "considering playing at home" in Australia. Is this some kind of agent-suggested negotiating tactic or does he really want to go play at home? Will someone take him anyway and try and talk him into staying?
9. Jeffrey Gonsalves, forward, Rhode Island (From Markham, Ontario) -- Missed the combine due to his recovery from mononucleosis. The Canadian may be a target for Toronto, possibly even at No. 1, although I don't expect him to go that high. His absence from the combine didn't really hurt him because the forward group was not great.

I don't think you get soccer fans, they'll watch both.
I do believe that soccer will fly here I do believe that there's more kids playing Soccer over the last 5 years then Baseball and they'll all want to go see a game. if anything I think this might hurt the fans support for the Jays. I for one am not a huge fan for the same reasons as above no one really to cheer for but now that toronto has a team I might take up interest if the play is any good. also you guys think the fans here will be as crazy as they are in Europe?
well as I do the Maple Leafs Ill put my support into them...
I have a question... Is Vancouver going to have a team in the near future? because I heard they are going to build a big soccer stadium near Canada place I belive...
Hopefully after the stadium is built the caps can move from the USL to MLS, or some sort of relegation and promotion system can be set up. .
Good luck to Toronto FC. I'll be cheering them on for now, but if or when the Whitecaps or a Vancouver franchise are put into the MLS; well, that'll be my team.

This is true. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try and target in on a specific ethnic group. I've been to Raptors games where there's a crowd full of Serbs because Peja Stojakovic is playing. Get a couple has-been Portuguese or Croatian players or something, like guys who people from that country would know (even if they suck now).

Actually, you know top soccer players in Canada can be just as good.
We've sent teams over to England at the youth level and beat top English squads.
The biggest difference is the coaching and the fact after about u16, players drop out because there is very little to go to after u17.
Soccer drops off the face of the earth at the adult level here.
In Calgary there is probably about a half dozen good coaches/trainers, and over 1,000 teams.
