The way I see it we need a D-man for comrie and a good one.
Which of these deals would you do for comrie and which am i out to lunch on?
1) Comrie for A. Markov-mtl
2) Comrie for Mara-Pho
3)Comrie for Rachunek-ott
4) Comrie for Gonchar-wash
5) Comrie for Eminger-wash
6) Comrie for Grebeshkov-LA
7) Comrie for Boyton-Bos
8) Comrie for Hainsey-MTL
9)Comrie for Phillips-ott
10) Comrie for Kubina-TB
Out of the deals listed i like The phillips deal the Markov deal and the Mara deal.

6 and 8 are the only one's I see as being realistic if P Bergeron goes cold or slumps maybe 7
2. I like this deal a lot. Phoenix should add something though.
3. This is probably the worst proposal in my mind. Rachunek could be had for picks, nevermind Comrie.
4. Won't happen. A salary like Gonchar's just doesnt fit the bill here in Edmonton.
5. Eminger would be a solid pickup for the future. He won't be any help to us right now. He's no better than a 5/6 defenseman at the moment but is a future top pairing.
6. Grebeshkov would be good but for some reason, i just would NOT trade for him. Maybe it's just me.
7. Boynton! this one is probably my favorite proposal of them all. I would be happy to see him here.
8. Hainsey is like Eminger. Solid pickup for the future but wont bring help at the present moment. Our D is weak and we need help now.
9. Phillips would be amazing but Ottawa fans were talking about how they would trade Phillips for Ethan Moreau. No i wouldnt trade Mike for Phillips but i would trade something else for him.
10. Kubina would also be one of my favorite proposals too. He's huge and an offensive defenseman. He reminds me of the old Janne Niinimaa that came to Edmonton after the McGillis trade. Kubina makes the same defensive mistakes that Janne used to make but after a while he became a solid rearguard. That's the least i could hope for if we trade for Kubina.
Just to add, If Pleau went crazy and offered up Jackman for Comrie and Chimera/Horcoff i would be all for it too

Pleau? Go crazy and trade youngsters? Never,
I mean what are you basing this on, its not like he trading Nagy, Handzus and Taffe for Tkachuk or something......Oh wait, lol.
My personal thoughts on Comrie have waned in the last while. Recently the thought has come up that he won't be traded this year after all. If you look at our lineup we have some decent players filling in and there is just little reason to bring another body into the lineup. I could see the kid moving with another player or two for a big name player, but again that makes little sense right now.
Brewer Bergeron
Smith Staois
Cross Ferguson
And Semenov is the extra.
If indeed we are going to be losing Smith this off season, why make a trade now and move both him and Comrie for another Dman? Sure, it addresses a future problem, but right now there is no problem with Smith back there. He's playing quite well with Staois, why fix something that's not broken. Are we expecting the Canucks to offer up Jovo? Maybe Florida will beg us to take Boe off their hands. Nope, not going ot happen.
Short on injuries, and short of the typical February lull, I figure Lowe is going to hold the Comrie card until the offer is too good to turn down or he absolutely needs to make a deal. I don't think either situation will present itself.
When he does get moved I think it will be nothing short of a blockbuster. Maybe the Oilers move a number of bodies for a #1 pick. Or perhaps another solid youngster.
Don't know if there was ever an opportunity to trade for Steven Weiss but that ship has clearly sailed.

Can't see this lineup happening./ First you have broken up Dvorak-York-Torres the most productive unit. Also you have put York on the fourth line - he is the Oilers best player. Moreau-Stoll-Pisani is the third line checking unit. Anyway seems like that mishmash of average lines that needs to be avoided. My lines would be:
This is a much more consistent lineup with what is needed of NHL teams. 2 good scoring line, 1 good checking line, 1 energy line that has offensive upside with defensive reliability. To me Reasoner has been too successful on the 3rd line to make an adjustment. They have an awesome +/- and are racking up the points with Reasoner as the third line center. To me it doesn't make sense to move him when the Oilers now have two good scoring centermen in Oates and York.

Well, I think we agree enough that there is probably going to be little movement on the Comrie front. Suffice to say, it seems if the Oilers move Comrie they are going to have a log jam at either D, goal or forward positions regardless. When this goes down, it will mean someone will have to tag along with Mike. That said, if the Oilers and Comrie reach an agreement, it is safe to say that bodies will have to be moved to make room. Either way, there should be a shake up one way or another. Unless Comrie sits.

This all said, I don't quite agree with your reply on my lines. The Oilers have long said since Doug Weight left that to be successful they were going to need to score by committee. That means we don't have that one monster line like the Avs, Nucks, or Kings (when healthy) have. That means we need a couple of lines going every night and any one of them might take over a game. I don't care what order you place these lines in, MacT is going to roll whatever line(s) are clicking going into the game and during it.
Something about the argument that 3rd line IS the checking line, first and second ARE the scoring lines, and 4th is for WHOEVER remains. Seems kind of silly.
The problem I see with your proposal is that a couple of guys who have shown promise, namely Isbister and Reasoner, are being relegated to 3rd and 4th line status. Not going to happen, especially with Izzy making the money he's making and Lowe staking a part of his rep so heavily on this guy have a break out year. Break out years don't usually happen to 4th liners making 1.8million but only getting 10 minutes a game. That means he has to get some better time than that, with better players. Same with Reasoner. The thing that has killed both Smyth and Hemsky is that they don't have a guy like Marchant covering their butts while they dance. Funny thing is that the reason Lowe didn't sign Marchant was because an adequate replacement was already on the roster - Reasoner. He wins faceoffs, plays good D, and probably has better offensive instincts than Todd ever will. Makes sense to me.
You even admit in your response (atleast seem to) that Stoll is playing well. Why take him out? Why place him on the 4th line? Doesn't make sense, especially since Reasoner's injury Stoll has played well.
Perhaps my lines need a tweak here and there. Maybe you keep Dvo-Torres-York together, pair Hemsky-Izzy together with Reasoner down the middle and play Oates-Smyth with an extra - name someone. But the Oilers can't afford to let anyone play idle, they need everyone and my line up does that. When healthy we'll see who is correct.

Reasoner is succeeding on 3rd line why change that chemistry. What do you want to do, play him with Smyth and stall any development. He is regarded as an excellent 2 way centerman and that line was clicking as good as the York line and better than all the others.
Stoll is a rookie. That is why he finds himself on the 4th line. The Oilers have Oates, York, Reasoner as numbers 1-3 centerman - which one do you suggest plays 4th line - York the Oilers best player by a country mile? Stoll needs to be brought along slow. He has played well, but has taken costly penalties that have hurt the team. He is a rookie - giving him more responsibility would be naive.
As for your comment on Smyth - he can't dance so their is no validity to that statement. You want him with Oates and "someone" hmm, Smyth had Hemsky and was brutal how is someone going to be any better. Their needs to be some sort of structure to the lines and I just don't see it with your combos. You need to keep chemistry when you find it.
Dvorak-York-Torres - amazing chemistry although stalled slightly in the past few games (like everyone else mind you)
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani - this line was the most successful 5on5 on the team prior to Reasoners injury. Not only did they stall the oppositions best scoring line they produced more offense than anyone else. Call this the second line if you don't like Reasoner on the 3rd but the fact remains they have the chemistry the other have been missing.
Smyth-Oates-Hemsky - this would be the first line. Smyth and Hemsky had crazy chemistry last year, mainly because Hemsky could find Smyth for tap in goals. With Oates it creates a very balanced attack.
Isbister-Stoll-Chimera - I you want balanced attack with scoring from everywhere there is no reason this line can't contribute. Stoll and Isbister have chemistry and they have been producing. You love Stoll, and you see upside in Isbister - someone has to be 4th line and this is how it will shakedown guaranteed. They will likely rotate Isbister up with York and Oates line at points but unless he contributes ridiculous numbers where else does he fit?
Those lines are the most balanced and they utilize the chemistry already develoepd. I can almost guarantee these lines will be the lineup once everyone is healthy.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just got out of an exam and I sort of needed this. No insult/sarcasm if you are reading that here.
I want to try and press this a little. You argue that the RPM line had great chemistry before the injury. Don't you see something similar there right now? Not to the same degree, but can you honestly say that the line has regressed terribly? I think you are hard to say that. It might not be what it once was, but it's an alright checking line.
That said, I can't back off my stance that for Smyth and Hemsky, or Hemsky and Isbister to get going they need to be freed up. Marchant did that last year and Reasoner can do that this year.
Also, your 4th line energy line is intriguing but I can't shake the idea that we are shifting Isbister to the end of the lineup. My understanding is the guy has been struggling with injuries since the mouth injury he sustained in pre-season. Hard for the guy to get going. Place him on the 4th line and he might look okay and play some decent hockey but you are relegating him to checker status and at 1.8million to qualify, I can't think that Lowe wants that to come of his trade deadline prize. He's been after this guy for atleast two March deadlines, finally cashing in last year. A 15 goal energy player isn't why he made the trade and isn't why he's paying Izzy to do.
Besides, Oates is a man who brings out the best in players. Something tells me that the players Lowe wants the best brought out of aren't guys who are already doing something. Those who need a jump start are who Oates is here to make look pretty.
Your original criticism that I was breaking up the chemistry might be bang on, but my criticism that you aren't using guys to the best of their abilities isn't far fetched either. Somewhere here there is a happy medium, and that happy medium can only be found with healthy bodies, good team play and wins.
I'll check in on this after the game against Minny. Don't go away.

Offensively the Moreau-Smyth-Pisani has stalled IMO and the chemistry has evaporated. They aren't nearly as positive +/- and they have struggled defensively. Way better than Reasoner.

I'll just add Souray and Komisarek - Habs. to your list. Also, I second Oilflips idea of Barret Jackman. The simplest solution is to re-sign Comrie. Let him play his way into increasing his trade value - IF he wants to be traded.
