Does anyone else think that the last few games A-Train has been playing his best hockey, well, ever?
VOLCHENKOV FOR VICTORY!!
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
He can also double as the backup goalie if needed.
His goaltending play has indeed improved. Last year he used to collide with the goalie and get in the way. Now he seems to be blocking shots about a meter out from the net - way better.
Last game in particular, I even noticed one leg save where he kicked it out much like an actual goalie.
He has been awesome of late, no question. Still not a huge fan of him and Phillips together (not enough quickness), but he has stepped it up huge.
Ironically, the two players most often mentioned in trade rumours (Volchenkov and Vermette) have both been two of the bright spots during this dreary fall.
Ya right. Haven't you guys heard? Muckler offered Volchenkov straight up for Brendan Morrison, and Nonis turned him down. This is fact, I read it in some canuck thread.
I really like how Volchenkov is playing, but sometimes, he slides himself wayyyyyy out of the play... and more and more, players seem to catch on that he'll drop down to block shots as soon as he has the chance, and they start deeking out of his way to make passes around him.
I think he should tone down his sliding a little bit, it takes away from his positional play and covering players around the net.
But his physical presence is awesome. He's our defenseman that hits every chance he has...
Who the hell would we replace Volchenkov with? Or maybe we would just ice 5 forwards at all times, and turn the game into a shooting gallery.
F%$K!!! Get rid of Muckler befor he makes another stupid trade. Lets trade a guy who blocks shots and hits people. We should be trying to get more guys like him...not trading them....
Well there goes the “Muckler is a rational and patient GM” theory.
Let’s praise the high heavens that Nonis is, apparently, a bigger idiot than Muckler for not biting on this deal right then and there. I hope Muckler will have the common sense to hang up on him if calls back in a week to ask if this offer is still on the table.
I agree that Muckler must be fired before he trades whatever this team has left.
you guys are lucky we have no scoring depth or he would be a Canuck right now.
It has been confirmed by TSN that Muckler offered Nonis Volchenkov 1v1 for Morrison.
Frankly the Canucks don't have the players to contend this year so I would have done the deal.
"Forget about style; worry about results." - Bobby Orr.
It would be nice if Bobby would mention that to Spezza and make it sink in.
Volchenkov is playing the best hockey of his NHL career right now which also makes him quite valuable in terms of return for him. Personally though, I would prefer they trade Phillips but he seems to be ingrained in this organization's plans to move forward. If a defencman were to be part of a trade now it could be Preissing that goes since he hasn't as of yet played to his potential. McAmmond is another one who has speed and plays a very good two way game but doesn't really hit anyone, hasn't contibuted offensively and has to pick it up a notch or two. We still need more heart and desire on this team, we still need more guts and determination on this team, we still need someone to carry this team on their back and maybe, just maybe the one guy who may be able to do that at this time is Emery.

I have been one to offer out the A-train and I am not going to apologize for it because he is good. You don't trade away bad players expecting to get good ones in return and this team needs top 2 line players more then Dmen. Having said that, the A-train is pretty far down on my list of Dmen that I would trade away for that forward considering the otherwise softness of our core. Preissing baby, its all about trading Preissing!

I agree. Preissing has not impressed me at all.....
I don’t know what you guys are talking about because IMO he looks silly out there jumping on the ground all the time around all his teammates. Why does he need to be “different”? All his teammate just do the old stand up strait screen the goalie be as small as possible while he’s just flopping on the ground. Pffff

It's true, but I would say we give him up only if the right offer came along the way. Under-achieving, overpaid Morrison is not that offer, in my opinion.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't understand how Brendan Morrisson at $3.2 million is a desirable commodity. I certainly hope those rumours are false. That would be Muckler's worst trade ever by a country mile, including the Hossa and Arnason trades.
As for the topic at hand, what more can you say. Volchenkov has arrived. Guts, guts and more guts. He's exactly what we need more of on this team. Too bad he's not a step faster, but he's smart enough to rarely get caught out of position.
Muckler is retarded. I used to love the guy but his ego and love for north american players is destroying this team.
If we trade Volchenkov..I'd be on the edge of not supporting this team until there is a change in management.
Preissing, Corvo, and McAmmond are the guys we should be trying to move for players like Morrison (but hopefully not mr. 3.2 million). But that would mean Muckler would admit his off-season acquisitions were a failure..and that won't happen.
We should all just pray he doesn't pull a Mike O'Connell and trades Alfredson...
