Fearless predictions, 2006 edition!

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=172511

So, a month or so ago, Stu made a thread showcasing this old thread, was interesting to see how many things were right and how many things were far off. And please, don't post things like "Red Wings fans will continue to complain no matter what lmaololol"

1. Zetterberg will be a Hart candidate.

2. Hasek will not make it past January 10th healthy.

3. Kronwall will be an All-Star.

4. Zetterberg leads the ways, ala Stevie in '02, to the Conference finals.

5. Franzen, if signed, scores 16 goals and 38 points.

6. Jimmy Howard wins MVP of the AHL.

* Lidstrom will at least be a finalist for the Norris...I think maybe Niedermayer, Pronger or Chara will win it.

* Hasek will make it an entire season and win 25 games and have a GAA under 2.30 and 5 shutouts.

* They will lead the league in points by defensemen (collectively).

* Leading scorers: 1. Zetterberg.....90 pts. 2. Datsyuk.....84 pts. 3. Lidstrom.....71 pts. 4. Lang.....65 pts. 5. Williams.....57 pts.

* The Wings will win the Central Division by edging out the Predators by 4 points...they will have the 3-seed going into the playoffs and lose in the second round.

Nick ties Bourque w/ #5.

Z scores 50 goals. There was some blip in an article from Sweden that said he was working on his shot (around the time the wrist thing came up) and more importantly trying to change his mental approach to the game to be more assertive in the offensive zone.

Hudler sticks and clicks with Z and notches 50+ points.

Both Dom and Oz win 25+ games.

I am going to be Mr. Negative here....sorry.

1) Zetterbergs wrist injury is more serious than we think and he ends up missing upward of half the season.

2) Pavel Datsyuk takes that final step into superstardom and finishes the season with a Hart Trophy nomination.

3) Nick Lidstrom doesnt win the Norris, but he is a finalist for the 8th time.

4) The Wings finish 2nd in the Central and get the 7th seed in the Western Conference.

5) Jiri Hudler finishes with about 55-60 points as he logs tons of minutes due to Zetterbergs injury.

6) Wings defeat Nashville in Round 1...miraculously.

7) Wings lose to San Jose in Round 2 in a sweep.

8) Osgood is traded at the deadline

9) Dominik Hasek stays healthy all year long.

10) Wings have ooodles of money to spend in the offseason.

I'll make a prediction to this prediction: Wings have plenty of money to spend in the off season to once again do not make a big splash due to waiting most of the summer to try and re-sign Datsyuk, Schneider, Lang, Holmstrom and Kronwall. Maltby gets let go and we sign a few tier 3 players. Datsyuk will try and get upwards to 6.5m but in the end we sign him to a 2yr/12m contract.

-Zetterberg scores 50.
-Datsyuk breaks 100 points.
-Draper scores 15-20 goals.
-A healthy Datsyuk shines in the post-season.

Hasek gets Detroit off to a hot start to take the early division lead. He gets injured but an Osgood/Howard combo fill in admirably until Hasek returns late in the season to lead Detoit to a second round exit from the playoffs.

Zetterberg leads the team in points, 90+. Detroit finish 2nd in the division as a 4th or 5th seed team.

Lidstrom continues to groom Kronwall while finishing with 65 points. Kronwall fills in nicely with 30 points.

Datsyuk grows tired of hfboards posters comments and demands a trade mid-season.

Hasek stays healthy, plays 40-50 games, and is great in his starts.

Lidstrom leads all defenseman in points, and wins yet another norris. Kronwall stays healthy puts up 40+ points. Schneider has another 20 G 30 A season and is +25, and will still be ragged on by many Wing's fans.

Datsyuk leads the team in scoring with 100+ points, Z follows closely behind with 90+ points. Also, Z plays wing and plays it exceptionally. He has been working on his shot and agressiveness, which would make him a better winger.

Howard has a great AHL year, and is the AHL goalie of the year. Flippula scores 85+ points in the AHL, putting him at #4 in the AHL scoring race. Hudler and Kopecky make the Wing's roster.

Finally, the wings finish with 108 pts. first in the central by 8 pts. over Nashville.

Regular Season:

* Hasek stays healthy and wins 30+ games and will be a finalist for the Veniza Trophy
* Zetterberg continues to impress (will play in the All-Star game) he will wear one of the "A". He will finish with around 90 points.
* Datsyuk shows that he is one of the best players in the league (will play in the All-Star game) and finish 100+ points
* Franzen shows that he can play on one of the two top lines
* Samuelsson and Holmstrom will repeat the seasons they has last year
* Lidstrom will lead all defenseman in points and will win Norris #5
* Kronwall will have a great season, 13G 25A
* Schneider will reach 20 goals again
* Fisher will play again
* Markov is what we need and shows that with a great work attitude
* Hudler plays on the top line with Datsyuk and will finish with 60/65 points
* Detroit finished 1st in the Central division and 2nd in the Western Conference

Playoffs

* Detroit reaches the Conference finals and will lose against Anaheim.
* Datsyuk shows to the world that he can lead his team deep in the playoffs
* Markov will be great and resigns with the team (2 years)
* Zetterberg and Lidstrom are great
* Lang make’s up for his disappointed season with a solid playoff performance
* Datsyuk resigns with the team, 2y/$13 million

As you can see I am being very positive and to be honest I think that I am to positive

mine:

* zetterberg becomes team leading scorer, over 90 pts, datsyuk over 85, lang over 70, lidstrom over 70
*kronwall emerges and plots almost 20 goals, staying healthy, becomes a allstar nominee atleast
*Sammy and Homer will each get over 20 gls
*draper and maltby will solidify the PK still
*Hudler emerges to true form, providing us with over 50 pts and becoems a good asset
*Howards play in the AHL makes him starter for the following year, bye hasek after the season
*ill say Fisch will attempt atleast the comeback
*our GA will be ranked top 3 best, while GF might be alitlte lower
*we will aquire a stellar forward that will fill a hole for us for a while (a la a shanahan esque like trade in 96)
*datsyuk will resign during the season for a 1 year/5 mill deal

It's way early, especially with the roster looking the way it does, but here's a shot

• Hudler makes the team but falls in Babcock's doghouse. 18 points in 50 odd games
• Kopecky makes the team and puts up 13 goals and 20 assists in 60-odd games
• Kolanos gets called up but makes little to no impact
• Hasek plays 35 games, but doesn't finish the season. Osgood looks decent and starts in the playoffs.
• Stefan Liv is back up by the end of the year
• Lidstrom and Schneider both see significant point decreases
• Kronwall stays healthy, connects for 13 goals 30 assists
• Jiri Fischer does not play
• People will be bashing Markov by mid-season
• Zetterberg pops in 40 with 90 points
• Datsyuk has 33 with 95 points
• No winger comes remotely close to Shanahan's 40 goals
• With more icetime, Homer and Samuelsson pot 20-25 goals
• Williams puts up 17 goals 30 assists.
• Filppula connects for 85 points in GR, McGrath gets 44.
• Jonathon Ericsson struggles and is sent to Toledo
• Kyle Quincey puts up 50 points in the AHL and looks like a lock for next year's team
• Robert Lang puts up 30 goals and 44 assists
• No major moves are made before playoffs.
• Franzen 10 goals 14 assists
• Draper's offense picks up 16 goals, 24 assists
• Maltby plays more inspired hockey
• Red Wings, Nashville and Columbus (darkhorse) jockey for the top spot in the central. Only two make the playoffs (Detroit/Nashville)
• Nashville wins the division
• Detroit takes the 6th seed with 94 points.
• Loses the opening round. To Nashville.
• Osgood gets the blame
• Chelios plays in 48 games. Injured often. Not ready for playoffs.
• San Jose wins the western conference championship
• Shanny pots 34 in NY but people criticize him for his lack of physical play
• Legace can't help the Blues out of the central basement.
• Fedorov puts up 25 goals and 45 assists in a resurgence.
• Oilers don't make the playoffs. Finish just outside of the playoffs
• Avs don't make the playoffs and finish about .500
• Vancouver is much improved in a tough division. Wins the division. Calgary and Minnesota also make it.
• Dallas doesn't make it.
• Chicago improves but fails to make the playoffs. Khabibulan looks better.

Well. let's go out on that proverbial limb here......

1. Unfortunately Zetterberg is moved back and forth from center to wing (due to lack of scoring) all season where he manages to score 47 goals but doesnt have the all-around excellent season he had last year.

2. Franzen proves the skeptics wrong and thrives on a scoring line with Datsyuk and Williams.

3. Lidstrom's game takes a significant drop this season (from great to good) but will be offset by the emergence and continued health of Kronwall, who will establish himself as an elite offensive d-man.

4. Markov (not suprising) and Lang will miss time with injuries.

5. Hasek plays exceedingly well ( and stays healthy with fewer games played), and Osgood provides rock solid back-up goaltending. Goaltending will NOT be a problem.

6. With Zetterberg off and on his line most of the year, Holmstrom's numbers dip.

7. Playing with Zetterberg for extended stretches, Lang end the regular season with 73 points.

8. Detroit finishes 1st in the Central by 8 points, and grabs the #1 seed in the West....again.

9. Datsyuk gets the playoff monkey off his back with an excellent first round performance against Dallas.

i like the quincey thing, i really hope hes a lock for next season as well.. Detroit needs to start using these kids and making there farm more of a useful thing rather then just a thing that everyone elses has why not use one too..

I am assuming the goalie will be replaced in a couple games, so the games played by the goalies will be slightly higher than 82. I have regular losses and OT losses separated out.

I predict that there'll be a big trade to shake this roster up by mid season. Lang will most likely be gone. Markov will be a whipping boy by mid season and Lilja will never stop being one. Hudler will get spotty time a feud with Babcock, thus getting traded.

1. Kronwall scores 60+ pts., is about +40 and is a Norris candidate where he falls being overhauled by more famous Scott Niedermayer.
2. Zetterberg moves from center to wing all the season as was said somewhere up, but it does not affect his performance. Scores 101 pts., followed by Datsyuk with 97. Henrik is far ahead with 47 goals and Pavel leads the team with 71 assists.
3. Franzén understands the responsibles don't trust him and plays in Sweden.
4. Hašek plays only 15-20 games and gets out of order. Definitely. Not bad for the team - Osgood makes it no. 1 and plays really solid.
5. Lang has very disappointing first 20 games, skates terribly and gets traded.
6. Holland signs Anson Carter against opinion of the majority of the Wings' fans. Not a bad season, playing mostly with Zetterberg and scoring his 30 goals, 18 in PP.
7. Chelios stays healthy, but does not play the entire season cause of mistakes.
8. Lidström plays good while Kronwall is obviously better.
9. Hudler plays with Datsyuk and nets 30+ goals.
10. Wings make it to the play-offs from the 4th spot and go through to the Western Conference finals where they fall to Calgary.
11. Datsyuk has another nightmare play-offs, while Zetterberg, Kronwall, Lidström, Carter and even Hudler are doing a great job.
