Something to silence the haters?

In todays LATimes:

Quote:
"They measured them and the next thing you know, they were under the limit," Giguere said, smirking just a bit. "They can actually be bigger."

While that will probably do little to stop accusations, from players and out-of-town newspaper columnists alike, the numbers, Giguere said, don't lie. He said his leg pads measure 36 1/2 inches, 1 1/2 inches smaller than NHL regulations. His shoulder pads too were under the limit. Pads can be only 12 inches wide.

"The only thing they said was we have to get them to stay on my shoulders better," said Giguere, who gave up four goals in his first exhibition game Friday. "But they said that all last season."

Unfortunately, some never keep quiet, regardless of the facts:

Them Dallas folk just can't get over the fact that Marty isn't really better.

that's a San Jose paper. I don't know why I never learn, but I get so frustrated every time they mention him in connection with the crackdown on pads without ever saying that he was and remains within the new limits.

The link is to the SJ Mercury News, but the original article was from a Dallas area paper (check the bi-line).

Funny how the Jiggy pad myth was started (or at least first exploited) by Claude Lemieux during the Dallas/Ducks playoff series that Dallas eventually lost and is now perpetuated by a Dallas-Fort Worth reporter. Although, to be fair, I think the Lemieux's original allegations were printed in the Dallas Morning News.

the majority of the haters that actually watch hockey were complaining about his shoulder pads and not the leg pads...
eventhough we all know they are legal, but oh well..
so i know this isn't going to shut up the majority of people, but i sure wish it would..

For those who don't feel like clicking on the link, I'll summarize the article for you......
