Wouldn't you rather have an upgrade if you're paying more $? Obviously Luongo was too expensive then...

This is BS. I dont understand what PL is doing. Load up on French Canadians that used to be good.

I just dont see how this is an upgrade. Despite one great season by Theo I dont see it as that great of an upgrade over Aebischer considering the amount of money that Theo makes.

What the hell is this? We trade a hot goaltender for a cold one with a much bigger contract? PL's obsession with French Canadiens got the best of him here. I came in this thread thinking it was a joke, and it turns out to be true.

Jose better find his game again, and fast, or there are going to be a lot of people uset with Lacroix on this one. Unbelievable.

So we are going to rely on two rookie goaltenders to carry the Avs into the playoffs, since Theodore is out with an injury for six weeks? I don't get this trade at this point in time.

I can't believe this. Not only is it a completely brain-dead deal on the part of Lacroix, who seems to have completely lost it, but I don't even understand how this works under the salary cap. How much salary is being absorbed here? They obviously can't acquire anyone else. This is what Lacroix thinks is going to get the Avs to the next level? Hell, they should have at least insisted on sending Brisebois back. Dumbest ****ing trade ever. This is a blunder worth being fired over.

Agreed 100% I always kind of liked the Avalanche, and I don't get what the hell your GM did, maybe Theodore isn't hurt as bad as the Canadians made us believe.

They only have to pay Theo a quarter of his contract and they unloaded a quarter of Aebischers contract. I would tend to think they can still acquire players as replacements for Kono and Vaananen. I dont like the deal either, but Ithink there might still be something left.

Theo on IR...so the Avs actually break even in terms of dollars and cents. Luongo is coming baby...hopefully anyway.

Unless he's swapping him to Florida as a part of a deal to get Luongo, then it makes no sense. Theodore can't help the Avs unless they make the playoffs because of his injury and that becomes a more daunting task since you are now relying on rookie goaltenders.

what is PL thinking? have you heard rumors of another trade? do you have a backup or goalie in the minors that im not aware of? im just very shocked by this trade, and would like some clarity

Maybe that's true, but they still will be able to absorb less than before. Plus, they're taking on Theodore's contract past this season. Nothing about this trade makes even a lick of sense. There's no logic to it. I'd like to think I'm overreacting, but it still seems to me that this is a completely unjustifiable blunder on the part of Lacroix.

Maybe Lacroix simply feels remorse about fleecing the Habs in the Roy deal, and is making amends.

Somebody should have pointed out to PL that it's just a bit late to try to enter the Kessel race now.

The contract is the part that I can't get over. It'll take every dollar we can save on the Sakic/Blake contracts just to free up space for Theodore, leaving no real room left over the summer for other moves.

On the upside, maybe he's planning to turn around and send Theo and Breezer to Florida for either Luongo or Jokinen. We can dream, can't we?
