Connolly Time

the good
- Captain Craig, setting the tone with two fights with that crazy Carcillo
- Connolly and Stafford were a perfect combo tonight.
- Tallinder-Myers were dominating most of the time
- a huge win, the 2nd and 3rd periods were two of the best periods in the last month
- the PK was exceptional
- and when Philly did get good scoring opportunities, Miller was huge

the bad
- Injuries. Both Goose and Rivet could be out awhile. Rivet's could be really bad in the ankle, knee, and hip areas.
- Giving up two late period goals.
- Didn't like Roy-Pominville at all
- Toni Grenademan

the awesome
- winning in philly, being the more physical team in philly, being the better team in philly.

Ugh @ Goose and Rivet

Edit:

Tallinder-Myers
Lydman-Sekera
Butler-Montador

Looks like we finally get a chance to see Lydman-Sekera

Good:

- Connolly stepping up when Ruff called for someone to do so

- Stafford continuing to be our best forward. His work down low and along the walls, his puck protection, going hard to the net.... I hope this maintains, because he's truly going to blossom if it does

- LOVED Tallinder/Myers today... Tallinder in particular

- Miller was stellar again

- Jean-Marie Pominville (Jason's father...great name)

- Winning a physical, gutsy game that required toughness to power through it.

Bad:

- Has Steve Montador connected on a breakout pass, or an outlet pass, or a first-pass out of the zone all season? Holy lord, he's an AWFUL passer

- Butler was shaky...again.

Ugly:

- TWO late goals. we overcome 'em, yes, but that's inexcusable

- Rivet's first fight with Carcillo. Hurt the eyes.

yes... Tallinder. I almost started a "who's the most underrated Sabre this year?" thread to illustrate that point.

He was awesome today. I'd say 3rd star of the game behind Connolly and Stafford... and probably Miller too.

It was good to see. He has been solid all year with Myers, but today he was physical, quick with his decisions, active with his stick, and aware with regards to his surroundings.

He's awesome when he is on top of his game. For sure. I hope it maintains.

Good: Connolly
Bad: Injuries to Rivet and Goose
Ugly: first game I missed since the lockout sounds like a candidate for the best of the year.

Griity win. Sabres showed some balls in that one, after giving up two **** chances at the end of the first.

Good:
-Miller, Kennedy, Stafford and Goose while he was out there
-Tim Connolly. Someone has lit a fire under his ass. Good. About ******* time.
-Tallinder- solid. Myers- saw one bad giveaway, otherwise a good game.
2 points again in Philly.

Bad:
- inability to score on an open net. Doesn't seem like Buffalo can ever take advantage of it and take some pressure off.
- Lydman's giveaway right out front.
-Richard's with the scalping. How the **** was that a 2 minute penalty?

Ugly:
- the officiating was horrible. what game were they watching?
- the fans in Philly are neanderthals.
- the fall Rivet took, and the way Goose came away from the boards. We're in deep ****.
I missed the whole Kaleta thing...so....

That's on Ruff. He'd rather they chip the puck out, dump it, or ice it. Especially with a two goal lead.

Roy-Pominville have never had success together. Never! Roy, more of a perimeter guy himself, needs wings who get close to the net. That's not Pominville's game. Roy's point totals will plummet while he's with Pominville, just watch.

yep, i've been clammoring for it all year, but i really think Hecht-Roy-Grier would work..Jochen good down low, Grier along the boards, let Derek work the space along with being a good line defensively...in turn Kennedy's fire could benefit Vanek-Poms.

Anyone notice Stafford taking all the faceoffs for the Connolly line? 8 of 11 for 73%

G:
- 59 minutes of solid, gritty play.
- MCS were outstanding, Stafford in particular.
- Miller, anyone mention him yet?
- Hecht with some strong drives to the net.

B:
- last minute of the 1st period
- Tallinder's top-shelf deflection
- Pominfail

U:
- What game were the refs watching?
- Richards is one dirty player. How long before he gets his?
- Carcillo's yap.
- Injuries. I'm optimistic on Goose, but Rivet could be LTIR.

It's weird, they scored 3 goals, but I thought Mac was the worst Sabre tonight. I don't think he won one battle for the puck all game. Was nice to see Rebound Ray in fine form as well.

I don't know if they showed it on TV, but Carcillo gave the ref a 2 handed shove after the second fight, hence the misconduct, then the hissy fit. The buildup to that fight was awesome as well. I have no idea what Rivet said to Carcillo, but it set him the **** off.

Was a really, really fun game to go to. You should have heard the Flyers fans complaining about the Richards near scalping of Myers. It was totally bizarre. And of course they booed Rivet's injury, some real asshats there.

Oh, and the Kaleta hit was scary. I was right behind the play there, and his face just splattered off the glass. Didn't think it was major worthy, from my view Ross turned at the very last second.

Could you imagine Connolly playing on a team with a really good offensive defensemen and with forwards who are stars? For Connolly to have 21 pts in 22 games is great considering who he is playing with and how many times Lindy Ruff switches his line mates around. How would you like to play with Mac, Stafford and Pominville who usually go weeks and almost months sometimes with only 1 goal scored.

That is not true. I was a season ticket holder for the rochester amerks and Roy and Poms had great chemistry together. They played together last season and were great together. It wasn't too many games but they were good. When they play watch how they don't even have to look they just know where to find each other on the ice. If Lindy would stick with it they will start putting goals in. Lindy will switch next game don't worry.

Stafford played one of his strongest games of the year, IMO. The faceoffs are a pleasant surprise, especially given TC's ineptness in that department.

And I like Sabrereality's idea of switching Kennedy and Roy on the second and third lines. Let Roy dangle with a couple of guys that can cover his arse, and give Kennedy a shot with some real offensive talent. Man, that kid has earned it with his impassioned play.

Why is it a compliment to be called a tough cookie, but a giant insult to be called a cupcake? theyre both baked goods.

Good:
A Win...on the road....in Philly....with grit

Bad:
Where the hell is Vanek?
Losing Goose is huge

Ugly:
Philly fans

Apparently after the 2nd Rivet/Carcillo fight, Riley Cote was harassing the official David Banfield - enough for Banfield to file a grievance. Cote has a hearing with the league tomorrow regarding a possible suspension.

What a crazy mofo.
