IMO he should be 4th on the canadas depth chart (Crosby, Getzlaf, Staal, Savard). Play Getzlaf in a checking role if we need a checking centreman. (Don't worry M. Richards still makes it in this role, I'd play him on wing).

Savard is a top 10 overall point getter from the past 5 seasons. One of the most underrated, consistent centermen. I'd even take him over LeCavalier and Spezza.

Its been said before by Team Canada Staff that if Thornton makes it,it would solely be for a checking role. Well Getzlaf does that just as well if not better plus he wears his heart on his sleeve not under his pillow.

But I just have a feeling he doesn't make it. Thornton has no business being on team canada. I want him nowhere near the club even on the 4th line.

I'm not sure they'll be able to break up Thornton and Heatley. They really seem to be going off right now.

Get ready to be insulted

Thornton-Heatley will probably be 2/3rds of Canada's top line

then you have:
Getzlaf-Nash
Crosby-Iginla

And you certainly aren't putting Savard on the checking line. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some combo of Morrow-M.Richards-Doan

Nasty group of forwards.

Thornton is the best (argueably, at least) playmaker Canada has. Savard is a player that started really bursting onto the scene, and was long underrated, but I still think Thronton is better.

Also, Savard missed a lot of time due to injury. He is going to have to light the hockey world ablaze over the next couple of weeks (2ppg) to even get an eye.

In the regular season/games that don't matter, I agree.

Whoa, someone's a little defensive. It's almost like you know that Thornton would make it over Savard no matter what you think, yet just felt like arguing for the sake of arguing

Savard wasn't even invited to the orientation camp. Also, he's barely played the first part of the season, it would be harder for Yzerman to evaluate him if he hasn't been playing all that much. So I think he's out of consideration unless he's been exceptionally spectacular from now until they choose the roster.

Thornton will make it, unfortunately. He's been dynamite so far this season. His play under pressure issues probably wont be an issue when it comes to him making the roster, and that's really too bad because if he chokes at the Olympics, I'm gonna bust a nut.

You again?

Are you still basing Thornton's international play on his playoff performances?

And OP, you don't even argue any points on why Savard should be in AHEAD of Thornton

He shouldn't go unless he is the starter.

Crosby is easily Canada's best forward.

I have heard countless times that the top line will be Nash-Crosby-Iggy.

But Thorntona nd Heatly combe will definately be looked at for some point production.

Thornton over Savard

If they don't go with Thorton/Heatley they would've made a terrible decision. Marc Savard won't have a spot in my opinion.
My early prediction for the line-up:

Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Heatley-Thorton-Carter
Perry-Getzlaf-St.Louis
Morrow-Richards-Doan
Stamkos

Pronger-Neidermayer
Boyle-Weber
Keith-Bouwmeester
Green

Brodeur
Luongo
Fleury

uh... Joe Thornton is still arguably the best forward currently that have played at least 11-12 years

you dont leave top players off just because he doesnt perform "great" during pressured situations
