Believe it's actually Sherry Ross, but is that accurate? I know there have been a couple who've done colour commentary. No woman has ever done play-by-play before?
Thats wrong. I dont hate women but they are not right for hockey.
They tried that here in Sweden, she got like 5 games then she was out of there due to ALOT of complaint.

A good commentator is a good commentator.
Half the play-by-play people doing it right now can't keep up with the play or bother to get the names right, if she can keep up with the play and can get all the names right there's absolutely 0 reason why she shouldn't be doing pbp.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I do feel that I've yet to hear a good choice for it (probably simply due to a more limited selection).

No. If I could find a decent Ken Kal video I'd have used that too. At least those two only get high pitched when they're excited.
Sorry, but I could never enjoy listening to a female voice call a hockey game unless that woman had Fred Cusick's voice. Then it would be awkward at first but I'd get used to it after a while.

And for some reason I can't picture a woman doing this, not that I'm sexist or anything, it just wouldn't FEEL right.

We true blue gruff hockey fans have been saddled with ingrates like dave mishkin, rick jeannerette, Curt Keilback and that corpse mike lange... They absolutely suck the life out of every game I've ever listened to. Most "fans" accept them with the usual low self esteem that causes them to devotedly back "their" team (they're "one of us.. etc) It still doesn't negate the fact that those MEN absolutely stink to high heaven for the rest of us non indigenes...
It'd definately be something I'm not used to but if her voice wasn't as annoying as the aforementioned "gents" I say give her a try... no way she could be worse than mishkin's screaming in tampa
I've never heard it, but I would love to hear what it might be like. Luckily I have Centre Ice, and I can check it out.
But, however, people are complaining that it's not right, there are so many play-by-play men that are absolutely horrible. I think I can handle a female, as long as she's intelligent. I think the voice aspect comes second after intelligence.
I'm not surprised. Men start out on a higher footing in terms of any sports career (and, arguably, everywhere else). Play-by-play would be no different.
Theres nothing inherent in one's gender that makes them better suited to be a sportscaster. They certainly could do it, but they have a much higher hill to climb. Hell, it starts with "can I be a sportscaster?" and a quick look around gives a girl a resounding "no."
