Josh Gorges hip check - Penalty worthy?

Im watching the replay over and over and even if it sorta hit the guy knee i still don't think it was worthy of a penalty

http://www.rds.ca/video/visionneuse.html

Blue Jackets 3 - Canadiens 5

In french but only video i have to show

You can see the hit when theres 1:36 left to the video

That was not penalty worthy.

He went too low, imo. He got a two minute penalty. Right or wrong, big deal.

He didn't so much hip check him as he did frog splash him.

Seemed a bit low but it's definitely one of those calls that could go either way.

Went for the knee instead of the hip.

Penalty worthy because it was a dangerous play. It's called clipping and it is indeed a penalty.

If he would've went for the hip there would've not been a penalty called IMO.

And I think the bomb on Hiroshima was even worse... but that's not the question, is it?

Looked like he was going for the hipcheck but Boll moved to his left to avoid it so he got clipped the wrong way. I lol'd when the CBJ broadcaster called it knee on knee.

Not sure what that is but it gave me a mental image of roadkill residue.

He went after his knees. I saw the replay many times tonight as I was writing the highlight pack for the game. And it was clearly a dirty hit. I think he should get a game for that nonsense.

Steve Ott got a two-game suspension for the exact same hit.

That was a Byan Marchment special - clearly a clip. And it was called as such.
Quote:
Rule 45 - Clipping

45.1 Clipping - Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.

A player or goalkeeper may not deliver a check in a “clipping” manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees.

An illegal “low hit” is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player or goalkeeper may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees.

That was clear as day. Dirtier than the Scuderi one.

This

There is no parity in regards to handing out suspensions so i can see Gorges getting nothing. The NHL will find a way to differentiate the two hit when there is really no difference.

I'm going to go ahead and assume Ott had some kind of history before that hit, whereas Gorges does not.

The first time I thought it was a clean check, but he was definitivel a bit low. Not worth a suspension, but his 2-min penalty was deserved.

Too low, I'd call it.
