Kiprusoff won't play for Finland unless he's the starter

Was watching Sportsnet, and a news item said that Kiprusoff won't play for Finland at the Olympics unless hes the starter.

Thoughts? Do you think he gets the #1 Job?

Didn't Roy say something similar in 2002?

I believe he did...he was also left of the roster for that reason. He also demanded to start every game in the 98 Olympics.

Pretty much its a fight between Kiprusoff and Backstrom it seems. Interesting to see who they'd go with.

Backstrom would be his greatest competition. I think Niitymaki would probably be on the team. Rask is a contender as well. Lehtonen is injured, and probably won't make it this time.

If that is Miika's attitude, he can stay at home like he did in 2006. The Finns were brilliant in Turin, and that team spirit should not be poisoned by this selfishness.

If Backstrom didn't exist, I would understand his position but damn, what a *****.

Shouldn't even take him if he is going to demand stuff like that from his country.

His biggest competition is Rinne and Backstrom/

I'd say the same thing, why waste my time as a backup in an essentially meaningless tournament. I would honestly be in miami or on some beautiful tropical island somewhere. Two weeks off, wonderful.

I'll bet he will work his usual 95% of games and say he is taking it off to rest.

He should be left off the roster, no player with an attitude like that should be selected. Not like this has not happened in the past with other players/countries but its always ice to see them left standing in the cold.

Finnish goaltending is an interesting. Kiprusoff and Backstrom are obviously good, Rinne can carry a team, and Niittymaki has been hot and was Olympic MVP last time.

You are talking about Olympics here. Plus it should be a privilege to play for your country. What a ********* move by Kipper.

Out of all places you pick Miami?

I think it's a privilege to play for your country as well.

That said, there's nothing wrong with not wanting to set up camp in Vancouver if you're not going to be playing. I just wouldn't have openly said as much to the media. That probably isn't sitting well in Finland.

If you're Finland, though, how do you give the job to Kipper without hesitation? You can't. Not with Backstrom there.

If I'm sacrificing two weeks of much-needed vacation during a gruelling 82 game schedule, it'd damn well better be worth my while.

I'd rather get some rest than ride the pine in Vancouver.

I think he should get the spot, but with that attitude.... Im not so sure.

But I think we should get a link on this exact quote before we all get our panties in a bunch.

I look at it from a different perspective.

He knows there are plenty of capable goalies available and if he doesn't play it won't kill Finland's chances.

He'd rather just take the rest if he's not going to be the starter. No big deal if Finland doesn't need him.

What's wrong with not wanting to play for the team unless you can be a big contributer?

The time he spends warming the bench he could be with his family for once for an extended period of time.

I'd say that it *might* piss off fellow countrymen who would simply DIE for the opportunity to get on the roster.

It could potentially rub people of his country the wrong way. I don't disagree with him necessarily, I just would've kept it hush
