How Long Can Detroit Stay In The Central Division Race?
Detroit is not the same team currently as they were the past two seasons. Missing Samuelsson, Chelios (not really), Hudler, Conklin, and Kopecky weakened their team somewhat. Their team has also gotten a year older and won't get any younger. This season, they've lost Williams to a broken fibula, Valtteri Filppula to a broken wrist, Franzen to a torn ACL, Kronwall to a sprained knee, and were without Osgood for a little bit. My question is, how long can Detroit stay in the Central Division race? Their injured players won't be back for awhile and I'm curious to see how they can stay in the race minus several players and being older with the way Columbus, Nashville, and especially Chicago are playing hockey right now. I'm sure they'll find a way to squeek into the playoffs if they can get pretty healthy, but I think this is the year Detroit's run taking the division crown is over. Too bad for them, but it'll be a tough road from hear if they have aspirations to continue their run.
By adding Abdelkader, Helm, Ericsson, Eaves and losing chelios they are older now? THey are in the race as much as any team in the central right now, they won't falter as long as datsyuk and zetterberg stay healthy.

You missed Hossa. He was a big part of why they did so well last year in the regular season.
Going into the season I knew that they would be worse because of all the subtractions and very few additions. With all of these unlucky injuries though I have my reservations about whether they'll make the playoffs or not (they probably will, but you never know with injuries).
Is Kopecky really a loss for the Red Wings? We've all been waiting for him to break out for a few years now, and the fact that the Red Wings let him leave, while Kopecky has amassed a grandiose 3 points with the Blackhawks, I don't think they're missing him.
If the sharks cant get through detroit or Anaheim in the playoffs they dont deserve it anyways. I'm hoping for a match up like that in the first round.

Nope, losing Kopecky was a blessing for everyone in Detroit. I just wish Lebda went to.
Detroit always finds a way. It'll be hard to win the division but they will probably get a spot in to the playoffs and they'll get Johan "Mr Playoffs" Franzén back.
I think they will be in the playoff race all year. 6-10 spot then a month before the playoffs they will turn it on and catch slumping Jackets or Hawks for second place in the division.

Not really. They won the Cup the year before without him and had a much better record. Their goals against and shot suppression stats were phenomenal in 2007/08. Not to say that the subsequent year's decline was due to Hossa either. I think he fit in reasonably well but all the extra goals were just that, extra goals... they let their offense win games for them instead of paying attention to defense like they did one year earlier. In fact, Hossa was the only major addition, while otherwise they had everyone back (except Drake) from the Cup year.
Oy! Another thread opened by a Blackhawk fan to either (1) call attention to how well the Hawks are playing so far this season, or (2) prematurely jump up and down on Detroit's grave. Atleast this thread is somewhat more measured or subtle, whereas there have been other threads that have been way over the top.
I, as a Blackhawk fan, am embarrassed by some of the braggadocio thrown around by some of my fellow Hawk fans and I'm pretty sure the fans of other teams have had more than enough of it.
The fact is the Hawks haven't won anything yet and Detroit is not even close to being counted out this season - let alone buried. And that is not even mentioning Columbus, Nashville and St Louis who are all capable of giving the Hawks an intra-divisional smackdown on any given night.
The Hawks are playing well and I'm excited for our chances - but let's hold off on the celebration until after there is actually something to celebrate.
Besides him talking about the Redwings being older which is false, injuries for any team in the hunt are a legitimate concern.
With the Preds playing well, and the Jackets doing okay, it makes for a tight race.
In the end though, they are Detroit. They'll be able to tough it out until all of their guys start coming back. They'll be able to tough it out as long as they have Lidstrom, Dats, and Zetterberg IMO.
You realize that starting threads like this makes all Blackhawks' fans look like idiots? Detroit is the best best to win the division until anyone proves otherwise.

I cannot agree more with these statements. I hope people recognize that true hawks fans would realize that Detroit can never be counted out this early. It's ridiculous threads like these that make me embarrassed for hawks fans collectively, as most of us are not counting our eggs before they hatch. Please disregard this thread, we're only 25 games into the season.

This was my thinking. The Wings have been good for far to long to count them out this early. Hawks fans should know this the most.
