Not exactly sure which players they'd be scouting from us...I'd assume Stajan will be traded at some point but you'd have to believe they'd be looking at guys like White, Kulemin, Poni etc. If that Sopel deals happens, I, and I'm sure many Leaf fans will be unhappy. That is simply not enough to take on that salary.

I'll believe it when I see it (as in a move made).

Good game to bring the scouts out for.

If the plan is to dump Sopel in the minors, which appears to be the case, why would anyone be upset? Because MLSE is making less money and continuing to use their financial resources to their advantage?

Remember how Burke said he won't move players around the holidays?

Maybe this is just another: "do as I say, just not as I do" moment by Burkie.

I can't imagine who these teams are interested in. The Leafs don't have many realistic movable options.

Maybe they all came to see some entertaining 10-0 hockey from the Caps and went back home very unhappy.

Oh, I agree. I wouldn't have a problem with that but sending serviceable players to the minors is bad for business all round. It just doesn't look good and the NHLPA would certainly be pissed off. I would just hope a deal could be expanded that would send Kyle Beach our way...I've wanted that kid for a while and he's exactly what we need and he may be expendable from Chicago's perspective.

Hi December!

I'm November:
In less than a three days from now in America, there's this thing called Thanksgiving. It's kind of an important American holiday. There happens to be 5 players on the Leafs roster who recognize this day. It's also kind of family oriented.

Burke's self-imposed trade deadline is December 9th.

There's nothing the NHL can do. Many teams have used this route and we've learned that the NHL isn't able to step in and do anything about it. It's not like we've signed Sopel recently and are doing this to him (like NYR did with Kasparitis), we're just taking him off of Chicago's hands. I don't see any backlash against the Leafs for this move, just us using a loophole that is well known.

To be fair, the Americans live in Canada during the season so who knows what Thanksgiving they celebrate -_-

Burke was referring to Christmas.

While we're at it, The Leafs play in Canada that has Thanksgiving at the right time of the year

His Holiday thing is only for christmas though. He specifically imposes his own roster freeze a week prior to the leagues freeze.

This year there are even two games being played on thanksgiving. and almost a full platter on the 25th.

I doubt any of the Leafs will recognize American thanksgiving this year. Plus Burke's trade freeze is for X-mas and this has been made clear. He has a few weeks till his trade deadline will come, so I'm not sure where the issue is. Burke has a habit of broadcasting his deadline as well, so we should know full well.

I think Burke will flip players at the deadline and get some picks in the 2nd and down range...so other than the 1st round, we may be selecting a good amount of players.

Isn't there an NHL wide trade freeze around the holidays anyways?

Hey June,

I'm July.

The month we sign our first line centerman, Patrick Marleau. The months that we rebuild this team and become contenders for the upcoming season. .

Hey July,

I am September, the month where all the players report to training camp and we get to see our new first liner in action to go with Kessel in his first training camp as a Leaf

Yes, but Burke believes it's too short and unfair to the players.
