TM needs to give him a rest! he did this same S*** last year when they gave Labarbera the #1 job. if they feel Ersberg isn't capable of it then they need to get a vet in here or finally call up Bernier.
My question is did he earn all this? And even if he did, it seems to me that Quick has lost his mojo and seems content about where he is.
... He's a tired goalie. Which would be understandable, since he's played nearly every minute of every game. It'd be one thing if Murray was riding the hot hand (which I don't necessarily advocate this early in the season, anyway) -- but Murray's riding a mid-temp to cold hand. There's no explanation for Murray doing this that makes ANY sense whatsoever.
I am in the opinion that rest is not an excuse. If he is the guy he should be able to handle all the games given to him.
I do feel the Kings did not give Bernier a chance but I am starting to realize it is a good thing for Bernier to dominate the AHL to start the season. I do not think Bernier needs to play all year and it really should be the time to give him an opportunity now.
As far as the contract, I believe it is something like 1.8 million/year and many backups make that kind of money so the contract isn't really a big issue as he'd be a good #2 goalie.
I do feel Quick's speed is overrated. He often gets beat clean on shots and I really feel his side to side movement is not great. There were a ton of cross ice passes with Quick a few steps behind today as the cage was wide open on various occasions. I also heard the post so many times...
In all honesty he's done well but he is not better than Jonathan Bernier. It would be great to have Quick use all this experience as a solid NHL LA Kings backup.
Just imagine the Kings team when Bernier, Schenn, Moller, Loktionov, Hickey and Teubert arrive... Oh my...
Call Bernier...he's ready for this due to all the great junior season's and world junior experience.... He is a guy that can win games by himself.

BRAINO
He is on pace for over 70 games. How many goalies play more than 70 games? It's obvious he's tired. He's moving alot slower than he did at the start of the season and last year. We know he's faster. We have seen it.
We don't know that bernier is better than Quick. He's proven absolutely nothing as an NHLer. Quick has played a full year now and put it all together and it's an amazing season.
He is the best thign since 20 years or so.
I would like to see your faces with another Goalie in net.
He is the least of our problems...........
Mostly it's the system.
Show me the goalie who saves a rebound with a reaction time of 0.04 seconds..........
Really, there is noone.
Even with Luongo we would lose the same games.
It is like having a broken leg and you give a needle against the pain.
Word. It's silly. We haven't had jack in 20 years. He's the first goalie that night in and night out we could rely on for a solid effort. EFFORT people. With the exception of Potvin for 3 months we really haven't had anyone who went out there and did his best to win. If you can't tell the difference between Quick, and no he's not perfect he's 23. I feel sorry for you. And I feel sorry for you because you can't appreciate what we DO have in any of our players. Oh well.
If you ask Dean, I guarantee he will say that he didn't want to bring Quick up for another year. We didn't have a choice at the time though. Labs was horrible and fighting a lingering injury and Ersberg was injured, we had to bring a goalie up and Dean chose Quick due to seniority. He played better than Labs, and then ended up taking things beyond expectation. Either way, we didn't really have a choice in the matter, we had to do it to keep us afloat at the time.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who still believes in Quick. Feels like everyone has turned or is turning on him.
Ersberg should have played at the least 4 or 5 games by now. Not 2. He doesn't need to play a ton, but once every 3 - 5 games would be nice, depending on the schedule.
Quick, along with Doughty and Simmonds are going through some serious developmental hiccups, but they are important ones and the tenacity and fire all three have shown throughout their previous success and current struggles is what will see them through to the other side, all the better for the journey.
The question is time. I think they can all turn it around in the next 20 games. With Quick, if the team is playing well (which they are not) and he is standing out as a problem, then you do have to address it with a call-up or trade if Dean doesn't feel Bernier should be up or that Ersberg can take sufficient burden off Quick for the good of the team and playoff hopes.
How Dean handles this year will be interesting, since there is a combination of hefty young player development going on at the same time the team is trying to turn the corner to playoff-dom. What is best for one can easily harm the other, and a fine balance will have to be walked if the team continues to lose.
On the other hand, Dean has prepped the ole (paraphrasing) "No, we don't need to make the playoffs" line many times to lube us up in the event he does see this year as more important in the learning curve benefits of letting these kids struggle through their turbulence than potentially shuffling things around for the pure goal of post season action in 2010.

Quick is the best talent we have had at the position in i don't remember how long. If all of you are willing to give up on him so quick you need to think about it very hard how many times in any sport have we see a knee jerk reaction to a few bad games blow up in a teams face. And besides you all act like we have been a winning team as of the last few years we should be use to sub part performances. We all also should be giving this team undying support they are one of the youngest teams around and have some of the deepest talent most GM's and teams would be killing to have what we have building here. I am very happy with the way things are going because they are getting less and less painful to watch and the development seems to be going good did any of you see Parse coming along the way he has i highly doubt it...... give it time more then half this team is under 30!!! GO KINGS GO!!!!!!

Is it Cup or bust this year or are we still a young developing team?
He's not going to improve?
You haven't seen signs of him becoming a solid to exceptional NHL goaltender?
Are stats the only thing that ever matter?
That's the reason I don't post the other place anymore, ya know. Because this isn't baseball where every last little detail is quantifiable. It's hockey. A complicated game, with complicated people that sometimes defy stats.
Is it Cup or bust this year or are we still a young developing team?
… I wouldn’t say that it's "Cup or Bust" but I would go so far as to say that another season failing to qualify for the playoffs would be a huge disappointment. And there isn't much cause to expect that the Kings will make the playoffs with a team save percentage under 90%. It just doesn't happen in today’s NHL.

… He might, but that's really not even my point. The point that I and some others are making is that Quick shouldn’t be playing nearly every minute of the Kings' season thus far. He's done nothing to indicate that he’s ready to be a number one goaltender any more than Jason LaBarbera did, or Crissy Huet did, or even Roman Cechmanek did:
Huet … 53 games … goals allowed: 110, saves: 1092, percentage: .908
Roman … 49 games … goals allowed: 113, saves: 1085, percentage: .906
LaBabs … 64 games … goals allowed: 168, saves: 1612, percentage: .906
QUICK … 69 games … goals allowed: 173, saves: 1663, percentage: .906

… He shows flashes of good play but is unusually inconsistent. I think the thing is – where has Quick shown he is a "night in, night out" goaltender? You say the Kings haven't had jack in 20 years … have you been a fan for that long? Kelly Hrudey (5th in the NHL in save percentage in '91) was a better goaltender than Quick has been thus far. So was Jamie Storr, who took horrible abuse from Kings' fans but had a save percentage of .910 with L.A. Felix Potvin had more than "3 months" of good play, he was good for a season and a half, if you count the playoffs: 114 games with a save percentage of .911.

… I'll certainly take evidence of how often the goaltender keeps the puck out of the net over words like "effort", "desire to win", etc. The statistics are certainly not going to be a flawless indicator, but unless someone comes up with a better method to rate goalies other than aimlessly stating "he looks like he’s got some talent", I'll go with the evidence that we have available to us.
Again, the issue isn't to bash Quick. It's to offer some perspective as to how he compares with other goalies in the NHL right now and the goalies of Kings' past, and whether he's good enough and able to handle the load of a number one goaltender who's on track to play 70+ games. Regardless of whether the Kings want to use Ersberg or Bernier, the fact of the matter is that that backup isn’t being used enough, and it's having a double negative effect of tiring out Quick as well as rusting out the backup that's currently on the roster.
I think it's obvious to everyone he needs to get a day off here and there. I don't know how they expect Ersberg to stay or get sharp playing once a month. The soft goals are not a result of being tired, though. The guy just does not play his angles very well. For a smallish goalie that has to be a strength and not a weakness.
I remember 3 or 4 years back when Pens fans crucified Fleury as a bust pick and how crappy he was. Do you think they believe that now? People are too impatient wit young players developing. Sign of the times I guess.
I am also of the opinion that Quick just needs a break. He has to be fatigued physically and mentally. Plus, it's his first season as a true No. 1 goalie, and he should be brought in a little slower. The past losses were not entirely his fault, but he did not play great either. I hope he picks it up, as I'm really high on him.
I also would like to see Ersberg get a few more opportunities. It's true that he cannot stay sharp with only two starts.

To build on that look at Fluery's numbers they are only a smidge above Quick's. People chill. I say Let Berg start some games or give Berni a couple games up here and let Quick brew and rest, then let him loss again. That and the Offense and Defense need to do their damn jobs.
Further more the kid has a damn good contract for the next 3 years.
Quick can step up when he needs to. Can you say that about the rest of the team? When Terry pulled him aside awhile ago and let Jon know what was going on, I think he has done really well. He isn't going to get a shutout everynight, but he can keep this team in it. That's the only thing that players ask for their goaltenders and sometimes it happens and sometime it doesn't. Quick deserves to be where he is at right now, that's the truth. I think more of us need to have some patience with this guy. I'm not ready to give up on him.
