What I see, when I watch the video is the guy in the blue shirt is not related to the girl the stick was intended for, Niedermeyer does a pathetic stick throw in an attempt to give it to someone and the stick lands between two parties, the guy in the blue shirt and the blonde girl who he is with both latch on as does the intended party, they both start the tug o' war and then checkered man decides that violence is the only way, but the stick does go to the rightful person at the end of the day.
I think all parties had a little bit of a hand in it, even Niedermeyer... Throwing a stick in the middle of a crowd is asking for trouble, he isn't that short of a guy, he can hand it over better than that. The guy in the blue was kinda just fighting for it, but if he was paying attention he would have known to let go, and then the checkered guy is a lunatic
P.S. Patrick O'Neal is a tool. "Whoever gets the stick first, just hang onto it, everybody else just calm down" ... What an idiot. That works for a baseball, not a 5 foot long hockey stick, after being thrown in the stands, there are going to be multiple hands one it "first".

You're Patrick O'Neil comment is right on. He is an absolute tool. Last night, when Heidi was describing the Ice Girls calendar shoot you he was literally salivating. For the amount of hockey he covers, he sure doesn't cover it very well.

You know... when I was leaving the game last night, I walked past the post-game commentary and I was so very tempted to yell "Patrick's a tool!" from behind them, but I didn't...
I still can't stop laughing every time I watch this clip. Funniest thing I've ever seen. Patrick O'Neal and ducks fans go hand in hand. A bunch of tools.
turns out one of the guys in the fight was Mike Vallely
Well that explains EVERYTHING.
Seriously. Vallely is a bad ass and an idiot and he likes to punch whatever he can.

Yep. I played ice hockey with him in Riverside. He seemed pretty quiet and reserved, didn't see any of the activity I've seen from him on TV. The story I heard from one of his friends was that the stick was intended for him or somebody that was with him as he has practiced with the Ducks before. Watching the video for the first time it appears Niedermayer just chucked it over the boards. My question is why do NHL teams allow players to throw a stick over the glass after games? You're talking about a 5 foot long object that when grabbed by multiple people who all have a claim to it. It basically comes down to a battle of wills, strongest or meanest walks away with the stick. Not a smart tactic especially when the teams are already thinking about trying to make the players pay for their own equipment to cut costs. The new Easton sticks run $240, if I'm the owner I put an end to throwing sticks over the glass because you got a star.
