Interesting developments from Eklund...probably not true, but its interesting nonetheless
This proposal kind of makes sense, Pavs is still shaky, and for the Thrashers to have a sustained presence above .500 and have a shot at the playoffs, they will need to get reliable goaltending.
Patrick Sharp also makes sense since he is expendable in the sense that the Hawks need cap space desperately, esp with the bloated Hossa contract.
If The Thrashes make a trade for Biron (2nd round draft pick and prospect?
then it would make sense that Lehtonen or Pavalec are on the block
so....
to chi: Lehtonen/ Pavalec, Todd White, Angelo Esposito, Annsi Salmela?
Right now, Pavelec is better than Biron. Dude has made some incredible saves this season, and incredible performances. His defense isn't exactly tight, so I don't see how Biron would upgrade this team.
Now, a true stay-at-home, defensive defenseman would help.
Interesting,,,,,,,,,,, I dont think any of this is even remotely believable!
So with that said what about this deal
To Hawks
G Martin Biron
To Thrashers
D Andy Sutton
G Annti Niemi
Flames 2nd in 2010
To Islanders
G Kari Lehtonen
In this view given Lethonen's injury troubles and upcoming FA status his value is a bit low right now.
Thrashers get a vet dman who is playing well and a young goalie who has potential that they can keep or flip to another team and a solid pick. Hawks get a capable 1A/1B goalie and the Isles get Lehtonen who given his injury troubles could be affordable to resign and is a solid insurance policy if Dipietro cant come back.

The only problem with this scenario is that no one in Atlanta wants Andy Sutton back.

Why would the Isles give up this much only to get back another oft-injured goalie? We already have one under contract for the next decade plus!

Hossa's contract is far from bloated. The term is long but the cap hit is solid for a player of his production.

Gonna have to come up with something else because there's probably not ONE team in this league who be less interested in getting Lehtonen than the New York Islanders.
If The Thrashes make a trade for Biron (2nd round draft pick and prospect?)
Should and once Dipietro comes back from injury and proves capable of at least backing up Roloson, then Biron will be traded.
Your suggestion would seem logical now..... the thing is though, looking around the NHL now, there may be a VERY good market for Garth Snow come the trade deadline.
In fact, Biron may be the best value goaltender around come the deadline, so Garth is likely to have anywhere from 2-5 teams bidding for his services. It's not like he's the second coming or anything, but there don't appear to be many proven goalies on the trade market.

A couple of points...
One: This is from EKLUND!!!!
Two: This is from EKLUND!!!
Three: Makes NO sense for NYI perspective. We already have Biron for a one year deal on the cheap. We're going to give up Andy "2nd coming of Orr" Sutton and Biron in this deal? Would want much more than that - and will be able to get it come deadline time.
Sutton actually is playing really well this season. He was practically a Pilon his first season on the Island but it seems he is getting progressively better each season. Not sure how much him being a UFA is effecting his play this year or it just a case the system we are playing now is better suited for him.
As for the Islanders trading Biron, general feeling is the Islanders won't trade him at this point unless some team makes an unbelievable offer. Once Dipeitro comes back healthy or the Trade Deadline(assuming we out of playoff race) comes around I expect him to be delt most likely for a 2nd rounder and prospect

he's also let in goals from the other teams blueline and looked horrid and very shaky at moments...he's pretty much lehtonen without the injuries

we have one, his name is boris valabik and everyone hates him because he can't play our system. a stay at home defenseman is a liability with the style the thrashers play.

ues, but sutton was part of that whole make the playoffs or bust fiasco we had that set us back so much. it got us bogosian and kane so i guess i should be happy but still, brings back too many bad memories and too much hate of the rangers

This is not the first time you've mentioned this and I've always wondered if you've actually payed attention to the fact that Valabik was a +41 in 119 AHL games.

In addition, during the most recent Islanders game vs. ATL, I believe it was Jaffe who actually mentioned that this stipulation was part of the negotiations with Biron.
He said something to the effect of "If and once Dipietro returns and proves able to play, Garth had promised to move Biron via a trade, likely to a playoff team" or something to this effect.
Some folks over at the Islanders board mentioned hearing this as well during the broadcast. Talk about it was in the GDT.
if atlanta gets biron how about this between atlanta and chicago for sharp
to atlanta:
sharp+skille
to chicago:
pavelec+little
atlanta does this because they will have 1 too many goalies and they aquire 1 young prospect that can play in there top 9 now and i top 6 forward that will be a big upgrade for them that they want
chicago does this because they get a good young cheap starting goalie(they dump huet somehow)...and they get back a good youg forward to replace sharp with a cap savings...and they dump a little salary
