Commercial Ideas

am i the only one who has noticed that commercial time for nhl games are containing football orientated themes.

Last I looked the nhl product that I love and watch isn't Football

I noted the headlight commercial and the pro lien commercial are both football orientated and imo The NHL and the broadcaster should demand a NHL themed commercial and not the dumb kind like last playoffs bud light commercials

How I long for the days of the old Panasonic commercials and others like those from Tim Hortons, Molson Canadian, Pepsi, Coke commercials that tried to sell products using hockey culture ideas

Ill take the role of an alarmist and state that we should be aware!! I think that our hockey culture is under attack from big advertisers and big money

The changes in advertising isn't huge so far but it still has changed and it is something that we as a hockey community should take note off.

So I call for everyone to boycott any product that is using football theme during a hockey broadcast! Let them pay for there mistake of not making commercial with a hockey orientated theme to suit its target audience.

Don't be brain washed NFL football culture is mundane and brainless compared to our high paced sophisticated game!

I can't remember the product.... but remember the commercial with the guy in the conveince store and he gets hit from behing into the glass refrigerator doors. I loved that one.
I have noticed I'm not even paying attention to the commercials anymore so they must not be pushing things that interest me.

HNIC is a top draw for commercials and they should demand that a re-shoot occur to make any commercials hockey themed at least.

If the advertiser doesn't like it and insists on maintaining the football themed adds then they at HNIC should drop them for an advertiser that will support our game and our product and the culture that we love to be a part off!

I have no idea what a headlights commercial is but I'm pretty sure football has the biggest payouts of any other sport on ProLine.

There's more "cultural" hockey advertising every year. They've gotten lazy. I'm really getting tired of the early morning practice aided by a double double, or reliable truck, headlights, or brakes cliché. Think of something else please.

This ad and the proline ad got me thinking about what advertisers are doing.

When I worked for Sirius satellite radio usa the vp of our dep said hockey's time as a big time product in Canada would come to an end because of advertisers and now I see a few yrs later what he was talking about.

If all commercials make football to look liek the cool sport and our hockey commercials are dumb e.g The Bud Light Commercials it will lead kids the future market get in gear with ideas that Football is the real cool sport and hockey is not on the same level Thus they would choose all football related consumer options over hockey.

This is the tip of the iceberg! Our future is going to be lead away from hockey

Don't let them do this to our Game!!

Wait, you ARE serious?

Companies design advertising based on market research geared to sell their product. Their job is not to try and convince people that hockey is a "cool sport" unless that assists them in some way. Budweiser has no responsibility to try and ensure that kids (who aren't consumers of their product anyway) think one sport is "cooler" than another, why should they care?

I expect what your boss meant is that advertisers were going to stop throwing their ad dollars towards hockey broadcasts (because TV ratings and attendance are down), not that advertisements themselves are going to convince people not to watch hockey.

This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen argued on this here webbed site.

The medium is the message and within that medium the message can be manipulated unknowingly to the average joe consumer

Offcourse advertisers can lean a genrration away from hockey and very easily too and you won't realize it till it is too late!

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. Once you are here they own your mind and have gained control over your impulses that rule your pocket book.

This is the most truthful and logical post I've read here at HF. You are so correct it makes me sick. Just look at what this new generation watches on TV. I can't watch anything thats on anymore. Crap, crap and more shallow crap and everyone is eating it up like there is no tomorrow. Many of us older folk can't be fooled but todays youth are so impressionable that they soak it up not realizing the damage that is being done. I have 5 kids with my 6th on the way and I'm struggling to keep morality alive within them. The programs themselves have become advertisements for a lifestyle I'm not gonna allow my kids to live.

Can you be a little more concrete? Of course media manipulates people - this is not novel or surprising.

But the rate that their tools and methods are evolving is extremely concerning. Unless of course they already have you brainwashed? Not you Lansdown but you as in anyone.

Didn't I just see a pro-line one the other day with someone talking about the zamboni going in a counter-clockwise direction or something? Could have been last season though.

In any case, I think EVERY commercial should be hockey-related, regardless of their target audience.

Your post did make me laugh a bit haha.

So by your suggestions...
Let's put HOCKEY commercials to attract HOCKEY fans who are currently watching the HOCKEY game.

Does it not sound a bit useless to you?

Honestly it's not that big of a deal and I think you'll find that only a few people (including yourself) are upset about this. If it that's big of a deal just mute the commercials....
