Kris Letang for Bobby Ryan

What do you think of it?,is it makeable. I think a first line for pittsburgh with Tangradi-Crosby-Ryan would really work.

Sorry. Letang isn't remotely close to Ryan's level in terms of skill, or value.

A bit of an overstatement. Letang's got tons of skill. It's just the mental part and consistency that Letang is lacking.

I didn't say he wasn't skilled, but you're wearing some funny colored glasses if you really think he's close to Ryan in that department.

Oh, yes they can. Especially if they find someone to drug Bob Murray's coffee...

id do this or the original offer in a heartbeat...and im a huge tanger fan. getting sid a bonafide goal scoring winger whos 22 and only getting better...*shudders*. hell...make that 2nd a 1st to sweeten the deal.

kunitz-crosby-ryan
tangradi-malkin-talbot

defense takes a step back but with guys like strait, despres on their way and lovejoy holding down the fort in WBS i'll sacrifice a little defensive depth for a potential stud like bobby ryan. my only concern would be how much of a raise does ryan get when hes an RFA.

Anaheim:

Lupul - Getzlaf - Perry
Nokelainen - Koivu - Selanne
Artyukhin - Marchant - Dupuis
Brown - Carter - Parros

Niedermayer - Mikkelson
Whitney - Letang
Boynton - Eminger
Brookbank

Pittsburgh:

Kunitz - Crosby - Ryan
Fedotenko - Malkin - Guerin
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy
Bourque - Rupp - Adams

Goligoski - McKee
Eaton - Skoula
Orpik - Call-up

Not bad, but it's defenitely a downgrade of defense for Pittsburgh at the moment.

Edit: AND also offensive DG for Ducks.

I agree if you're saying that Bobby Ryan is the better hockey player and that Letang's value isn't anywhere near Ryan's. But debating their skills is a different argument. I don't think there's a huge difference in skill between the two.

Bobby Ryan isn't just a fancy skill player. I see him as a big guy that works hard and has some good skills too.

Bobby Ryan just has the mental part of the game down and is much more consistent than Letang and that's what makes Ryan > Letang because that's where the biggest difference between those two is imo, not skill.

Letang has tons of skill. The Kostitsyn brothers have tons of skill. It takes more than skill. Ryan has the rest and Letang doesn't, not consistently anyway.

Letang might be a bit flashier with the puck than Ryan, but being able to use your size effectively is also a skill. Hockey IQ is also a skill. Ryan is a very skilled player, and in my opinion, is measurably better in almost all aspects of the game than Letang.

Obviously this is all overlooking the fact we're comparing a defensemen to a forward, but it's difficult for me to say player X is as skilled as player Y despite the fact that player Y is the more effective player.

Not that big of a difference between Letang and Whitney anymore.

Letang 1G 6A 7Pts +2

Whitney 1G 6A 7Pts +5

No need for Kunitz to be added since their pretty even. I like Whitney slightly more offensively and Letang more defensively.

I don't want Whitney back though. His level of softness drove me crazy. I remember a game last season when Eric Staal pushed Whitney on the helmet. Whitney went down and stayed down like he'd been shot while Eric Staal skated wide open to the front of the net and scored the game winning goal. I don't really miss stuff like that.

Letang's inconsistency and hesitation will drive you nuts too though.

Letang isn't what the Ducks need. Orpik, however...

Moving Ryan would probably need a "how the hell was Murray able to get that kind of package" type of deal.

Wow, I adore Letang and think he's going to be phenomenal but he's not even in the same realm as Ryan in trade value...

edit: I never want to think about Ryan Whitney being on the Penguins again, no. Never. Keep him, for the love of God.

I don't understand all the ryan/perry trade threads recently..Anaheim is a struggling team that has 3 unreal young forwards, why would they want to split them up? In a couple years when these guys start entering their prime, and Anaheims got some nice players in their system, the ducks are going to look really good.

I think the idea is that the Ducks need to upgrade their D. Obviously they're not going to do that at the cost of 1 of their big 3 (Perry, Getzlaf & Ryan) But that won't stop people from making proposals for them. What other Ducks forward would you make a proposal for anyway? Parros
