Detroit needs a goalie, wouldn't the Isles make perfect trading partners?
With the Isles goal tending depth, 3 legit starters in their system and their need for offense - why aren't these 2 teams talking? All the Osgood supporters are going to come out and show me all his fancy Stanley Cup statistics, but really their current tandem will not get them through the playoffs. Is it too early to panic?
Edit: deleted my brain fart as pointed out below

Wait. What?

1) Dwayne Roloson is not a legit starter. Not anymore, at least. I'd rather have Osgood than him.

He started all of last season and put up pretty good numbers. It's tough to judge him thus far with the Isles because, well, they're the Isles.
I doubt Detroit would make a move any time soon...they can probably move into playoff position even with Osgood, and it makes sense for them to wait a couple of months before adding salary. Even if they have the room to add a goalie now, waiting gives them the opportunity to add a goalie and another player later.
even after the 3 nhl starters they have, they also have prospect depth at that position aswell. I could easily see them trading one of the goalies they have, especially if Dipietro is ever gonna come back, to detroit for picks or prospects
Detroit could use a starter, but not a franchise goalie yet, they have McCollum developing and i asume they are waiting to pass the reins to him at some point.
To Detroit:
Marty Biron
6th Round Pick
To New York:
Jimmy Howard
Evan McGrath
3rd Round Pick
There's no way Holland makes some knee jerk reaction and goes out to make a deal for someone that in my opinon is inferior to Osgood to begin with, its 10 games into the season.... regardless of whats happen so far we would have to majorly tank for something to happen. I think will be ok...... not to mention Howards looked very, very solid the past two games, its time to give him a shot before we go out and do something way to prematurely.

How about Biron straight up for Logan Pyett? or would we need to throw in a low pick or a prospect?
For people trying to sell one of the Islanders goalies...
If Roloson isn't a legit starter, and is old -- why would they move Biron? especially not knowing exactly what's going to happen to DiPietro.
Roloson is fine, at least I think so. He's also signed for 2 years. Biron is cheaper, younger, and only has one year remaining on his contract. He'd be the ideal trade chip.
Terrible goalie with a terrible cap hit + Hendry for Poor Goalie + Solid Top 4 Dman.
Osgood is playing like crap, but he's familiar with the system and he always turns it on later on in the season, these topics were up all season last year too until the playoffs.
Do I think Detroit should trade for a Goalie? Yes. Someone to split time with Howard. They don't have the depth to make it through the season with Osgood playing like this.
Do I think they should make a lateral, or a step back trade? No. Only make a trade if it's giving them a legit 1B goaltender, that can hold the fort ATLEAST until the offseason, if not until McCollum/Howard are ready.
not sure the value of what each would be.
Detroit has proven that they can be a contending team without a flashy goalie; that has to come up with remarkable saves. Vesa would be a respectable goalie with a good team infront of him, to take the pressure off.

Isles need defensemen, any good prospects?
Only one ready to make the jump is Kindl, and he isn't going anywhere. Maybe Brendan Smith would perk some interest....MAYBE. Offensive D-man, good skater, University of Wisconsin.
I think it is a little to early for the Isles to be unloading goalies. Especially since we do not know how DiPietro is going to play once he is healthy. If he is ever healthy again

I think you mean Vesa Toskala + pick + prospect for futures.
We're not going to take a goalie thats equally as bad as Osgood, costs 3x as much, and give up a pick and a prospect to boot.
