Gustavsson comparison?

Is it just me, or does Gustavsson look a lot like Miikka Kiprusoff? Just their overall style of play look very similar. Just look at this save and tell me this doesn't remind you of Gustavsson:

Oooooh, this thread should be pure hilarity! I can't see this going well at all. Seems Gustavsson is a great debate point for you Leafs fans right now. Anyways, congrats on the win last night guys.

He reminds me of a guy that seems capable of being #1 starter. Something we haven't had in a while.

He plays like a big goalie. There's lots of comparisons for that. He very good at low shots, have a nice glove and didn't let in any bad goals for that game. He's comparable to really any kind of big goaltender.

I know, I just compared him to Kip since I've heard others comparing him to Jonas Hiller, which I did not agree with.

1 NHL win....he should be our starter forsure, but i'm not a fan of comparing him to anyone yet. Give him at least a year.

And from what i've seen he has similarities to a few goalies, but in reality he has his own style.

I was also looking at his play in Sweden. He does have his own style, who doesn't? I just found the two having very similar styles of play.

How about we wait and see after he has had the chance to play a few games?

It's so annoying to see our fan base get so over excited at every little thing, Gusty has one good game to his name at the NHL level and we're comparing him to Kipper.

Like a bunch of over eager children.

I'm just comparing styles of play, not how they'll pan out. If all we know, Gustavsson could turn into a huge bust. I'm just comparing his style of play to other goaltenders, and Kip seems like the closest fit. Will Gustavsson be as good as Kip? Possibly not.

Oh i wasn't completely disagreing with you, i just think he doesn't really compare to anyone - but then again we haven't seen much of him (in the NHL)

That being said, i really think he has his own style that doesn't compare to anyone in the NHL.

He plays in both the stand-up and butterfly. Hopefully he continues to grow and mature.

He doesn't look like Hiller at all and no, I'm not just talking about Hiller from last night, Hiller is a much more square to the shooter type goalie. He's very sound in net. From what I've seen so far in Jonas is more of a Brodeur, he gets out of position at times but raw athletic ability lets him get away with it and recover. No I'm not saying he's Marty but I just can't think of many goalies off the top of my head. Kipper is another good one.

It's been obvious that the team simply plays better in front of Gustavsson. That happens when you have confidence in your goaltender.

honestly, I'm trying to compare him to a goalie right now but it's tough. I haven't seen one of his size, having that kind of scramble ability. he is a mix of Hasek and Miller I would say.

one thing is for sure it's that he hates to be beat. that's what I love the most. his 2nd effort is admirable.

His method reminds me alot of Dominic Hasek.

When watching Hasek he often looked as if he was randomly flailing and hoping to hit the puck, I see the same thing in Gus. Obviously there is a method to their saves but from an observers point of view that is what it looks like.

Lets hope that Gus can have similar success to Haseks career.

Funny you brings this up but Tim Thomas, Miikka Kiprusoff and Jonas Gustavsson have all played for AIK in Sweden. They had the same goalie coach as well (I believe so anyway).

Kipper 96-98
Thomas 00-01
Gustavsson 99-07

Coincidence?
