Oiler Game DJ

I've been one to largely criticize the DJ at the games over the last few years. Just wanted to throw out that the last few games haven't been that bad and figured i throw some quick props out to the guy for stepping his game up

it'd still be nice to get some songs that are more 'pump up the emotion' in the building, which is kind of tough to do when you're hitting such a large audience and such a big demographic change

but overall, haven't been disappointed so far

I disagree. The reason the last few games have not been that bad is because they have been played in vancouver and calgary.

DJ Dragon = the worst. He should have left with Barry T's.

Honestly last night they played Kanye west - stronger and the building in van got amped up. SO did the players after that. Not that the songis great, its not, but it is a vast change from the continuous creed you here at rexall place. DJ Dragon is garbage and has been playing the same music at rexall for years. It is time for a change.

How does anyone with the oilers not realize that the music played can have a slight effect on the players and the crowd.

creed/nickelback is the only music played in the heart of redneck canada.

Cannot give this guy props... one of the worst DJ's in any sports venue I've ever heard... don't even consider him a real DJ... he just has the weakass tracklist and presses play... timing and selection are both beyond terrible...

Ummm... I was at Saturday's game. Lemme tell you, the country music played neither amped up the crowd, nor the team. I will take Edmonton's music over the twang anytime.

I too have been to many games here in calgary and I know that the DJ plays counry music here and there but lok atthe atmosphere here during games. With the Sea of Red and the better selection of music the atmosphere always has teh crwod going wth chants.

Edmonton games are sleepers always. The difference between the two atmosphere is huge. Calgary is exciting every edmonton game I go to it fees like nothing has changed since the 80's where people clapped for goals.

If I were Katz I personally would give every season ticket holder man woman and child a new third jersey and get a sea of blue and orange going in the crowd. It would be a good start.

Even if the oilers just promoted that they wanted it tohappen and for people to wear their third jerseys it would be a start

Edmonton home games are sleepers in comparison to flames and vancouver games. I think it every time I watch a home game

Well now you're arguing personal perception and taste, you think Calgary's games are high energy and the music is great, and I think that Calgary games feel that way to you because they are against our team. They replay the same games before warmup, ancient goals, and Smytty farse video every single time.

Rexall may not feel like playoffs every game I go to, but I always enjoy myself and never regret my time or effort getting out there. The music does add to the experience, but I go to see some hockey. I have my car stereo and MP3 player for music.

I agree. The atmosphere in the Saddledome on Saturday was great. In addition to that the video montages making fun of Oiler fans were actually quite funny (for the most part). I particularly liked the one with the Mullet wearing Oiler fan dragging around an Oiler ball and chain and mulling around Rexall Place with a couple of his mullet wearing buddies. Deciding he has had enough he hoofs it to Calgary to rid himself of the embarrassment of his ball and chain. Harvey the hound finds him cuts his hair and gets rid of his trailer park clothes and saws off the ball and chain. He thows on Flames jersy and walks into the Saddledome with a couple of babes on his arms. I thoguth it was rather funny.

How do you know that? lol.

As someone who absolutely hates Kanye West, and hates his music even more, that song would do the opposite of pump me up. I'm sure I'm not alone on this.

Also, I didn't pay much attention to the music on Saturday night but I did take notice when they played Cotton Eyed Joe. Not to mention that song with the fast banjo. That gets me pumped every time baby!

I know people here like to harp on the DJ for playing things like Nickelback and Creed, but you should check out the "How well do you know Sam Gagner" feature on the Oilers website. He says his favorite bands are Nickelback and Theory of a Deadman. Do I like that music? No, not really. But it's clear what kind of stuff he would prefer hearing.

Also, I'm not even sure Creed gets played in Rexall Place. If it does, it's certainly not continuous as you said.
