What's wrong with John Mitchell? He's one of the few guys who has shown some passion so far this season.

I think this would be better
Sign Kulvachuk, Armstrong,
Trade for Sharp(since chicago needs to git rid of him to make room for others) and trade or sign for clarkson

Kolvachuk Kadri Sharp
Kessel Bozak Stalberg
Clarkson Mitchell Armstrong
Rosehill Wallin ORR

Kaberle Komi
Beachamin Schenn
white Exelby

Lets stay away from Savard. If we are to go for one of the free agents then Marleau should be the one. Doubt he would sign when RW is the coach.

lol, had to have a double take before I realized it was LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. Rene Savard? Derek Marleau?

I admittedly don't follow Nashville as much as I should, but has Dan Hamhuis really declined so much that no one thinks he'd be a good UFA signing? But I like your picks otherwise. Bourque for sure.

If we trade Kabs we need a puck moving D man

ya he would be a good one as well replaces Martin

Also Prust is from London
Clarkson from Toronto I think

I liked Mitchell last yr but not this yr

No more bad contracts please.

If I am Brain Burke, I would first re-sign our RFAs Kulemin, Mitchell, Tlusty, Hanson, White, Gustavsson. Combined, they all should re-sign at about $7-7.5 million. Assuming the salary cap for the 2010-2011 season stays the same, we would have about $11 milion to spend in FA. But we can't go all in, as we will have to re-sign Stalberg, Schenn afterwards.

Our defense would be set with Kaberle, Komisarek, Schenn, Beauchemin, White, and Finger. Our forward core would be Kessel, Blake, Hagman, Grabo, Tlusty, Kulemin, Mitchell, HAnson, Orr, Stalberg, Rosehill, and in net we would have Gustavsson and Reimer. Again, if I am Brian Burke I would go hard after a top end forward such as Savard, but only if the price is right. There are some decent forwards available in Savard, Jokinen, Kovulchuk (he will be re-signed by ATL), Marleau and Frolov. And the RFA market will be huge, headed by Semin, Backstrom, Toews, Kane, Ryan, Wheeler, Wolski, Mueller, Kesler, Setoguchi, Perron, Little, etc, so Burke may look into it as well.

It is going to be interesting for sure.

If Steve Ott hits the market, I hope Burke signs him. Clarkson would be awesome too, but I suspect he'll stay in NJ.

We won't have cap space for all of the signings that people are proposing. Putting Finger and Blake in the minors would free up some room, but not enough for Kovalchuk, Clarkson, Armstrong, and Sharp. He should be able to make enough room for the #1 centre and gritty player that can score (i.e., Ott).

My vision for next season:

Stalberg - Savard - Kessel
Tlusty - Kadri - Grabovski
Ott - Bozak - Kulemin
Wallin - Mitchell - Orr

Kaberle - Komisarek
Beauchemin - White
Gunnarsson - Schenn

Gustavsson
Biron (or whoever)

That top 6 is way too small and soft. I'm all for adding more talent to this teams top 6 but they also badly need some size and grit in there.

Could move Ott onto the first line, Stalberg onto the second, and Tlusty onto the third?

The other option would be to trade Grabovski away and either resign Poni or trade for someone like Patrick Sharp.

We cant sign any top end RFA's we dont have any pics left remember the Kessel deal

Jokinen to soft
Frolov he can always leave for Russia even if signed
Kully dont think he is that good
Reimer dont think so maybe in a couple of yrs

Players we should go for who is RFA.

Goalies: Josh Harding from Minnesota would be great to have on the team competing with Gustavsson for a couple of years until one of them hopefully establish them self as a #1. Hiller from Anaheim is also a player we should try to sign, even better do he is UFA but this was about the RFA´s so...

D-man: Parent and/or Coburn from Philly. They have a lot of big contracts and might perhaps not be able to resign both, dream scenario would be to sign both.
Cody Franson facing some real competition in Nashville. He could probably be resigned by them seeing as he is RFA and is now getting some games. But Nashville is always in trouble with their own cap and perhaps a deal could be made signing him as well.
If Stralman makes it to the free market then we should try to bring him back. Letting him go was a mistake.

Forwards: James Sheppard, big centre who is still to young to be labelled anything yet but he have not lived up to potential in Minnesota and they might part with him freely or perhaps not ask for more then we can offer. Peter Mueller is another player who would be a nice addition to the team but he will most likely be resigned. But if he isnt not resigned and hits the restricted market and we would offer him $3m a year then we would only pay Phx a 2nd rounder (that we dont own today but could trade for). Best scenario would be to make a deal with them straight up but I highly doubt they will let him go.
His team mate Upshall would however be a good 3rd liner for us. He got some grit and some offensive potential even do it is limited. Not sure they will resign him. Pavelski, nice little play maker. Like a mini Savard??? From Colombus both Blunden and Boll looks interesting for bottom 6 roles. Andrew Ladd is one of my little favourites. Sure he have not blossomed in to a high scoring power forward but he got offensive skills and is a big gritty player. If Chicago does not resign then we should. Downie is hated by most is seem like. I however rate him and would not mind if we would go for him in the off season if Tamba does not. Tough agitator who can handle the puck. Another of those bottom 6 players who I like is Cam Janssen, would be a nice addition as a 4th liner.

1. Get some size in the top six. Nathan Horton is my choice. Use a package of number 2. + prospects + picks

2. Get rid of four of these players. I pick the first four

Blake, Grabovski, Hagman, Stempniak, Kulemin, Tlusty

3. Keep Ponikarovsky

4. If Kadri is our first line centre next year we are in trouble. Sign Savard/Marleau

5. Pick one of Stajan/Bozak. I'm leaning to Stajan

Lineup

Ponikarovsky-Marleau/Savard-Kessel
Tlusty-Kadri-Horton
Stalberg-Stajan/Bozak-Kulemin
Orr/Rosehill-Mitchell-Hanson

I dont know if a team is still allowed to sign only one RFA even if they are signed cheaply (less then $1m) so no compensation is going to the other team.

OFFER COMPENSATION
$994,433 or below None
Over $994,433 to $1,506,716 Third-round choice
Over $1,506,716 to $3,013,434 Second-round choice
Over $3,013,434 to $4,520,150 First-round and third-round choice
Over $4,520,150 to $6,026,867 First-round, second-round and third-round choice
Over $6,026,867 to $7,533,584 Two first-round choices, one second- and one third-round choice
Over $7,533,584 Four first-round choices

Ilya Kovalchuk. Burke's a salesman. Make it happen. At any cost. This team desperately needs a game breaker, especially with our missing first round picks these next two years. Yea he's a russian, but he's the best player by far if he makes it to free agency.

I think a legitimate top 6 centerman (or two) would be a good addition as well, but not at the usual UFA prices. We just have to be patient and let players go (not Ilya) if their dollar amount stops making sense.

I'm not going to talk about the bottom six forwards because it's obvious we have an entire team full of them.

Patience is key here. Yea we lost our next two first rounders, so this might take longer than it should, but rush jobs are never good enough.

It isnt a value deal. It's a deal so that Chicago can clear up some cap space for next year.

i for one sir like your thinking! That lineup acctually looks half decent. The key is gettin Savard or Marleu. If we dont Kadri will have to play first line.

Either way your hired as GM
