1991-1995:
1991 -- October 31 -- The teams met for the first time and the Flyers prevailed 5-2. Rick Tocchet (2-0-2) and Mike Ricci (1-2-3) led the offense. Tocchet picked up an extra minor in a fight with Neil Wilkinson late in the game but Ricci netted a SHG with Ron Hextall picking up an assist. Hextall made 25 saves including 15-for-15 in the last period. Tocchet had the first goal scored in this series while Link Gaetz had the first Sharks' goal against the Flyers.
1992 -- January 3 -- Dale Craigwell snapped a 1-1 third period tie in the Sharks' 3-1 home victory played at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California. The PPG came on a 5-minute major to Rod Brind'Amour who was ejected for high-sticking. Kelly Kisio added an ENG. Goalies: Ron Hextall vs. Jeff Hackett.
1992 -- March 1 -- Mark Freer scored in the first period and Ron Hextall stopped 30 shots in a 1-0 Flyers' shutout victory in the Cow Palace. Jeff Hackett made 32 saves in the loss. The Flyers had eleven shots in each period.
1992 -- December 30 -- Mark Recchi (2-1-3), Rod Brind'Amour (1-2-3) and Tommy Soderstrom (33 saves) led the Flyers to a 6-2 road win. The game was played before a sellout crowd of 11,089 in the Cow Palace.
1993 -- March 25 -- Mark Recchi (2-1-3) led the Flyers to a 5-2 win in Philadelphia. Dominic Roussel made 16 saves in the win. The Flyers held a 22-6 shot advantage after 40 minutes and 33-18 in the game. There were four fights including Eric Lindros against Doug Zmolek ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqLiehjeoeQ ) and Rob Zettler both in the third period.
1994 -- February 3 -- Sergei Makarov's goal on the Sharks' first shot in OT gave San Jose a 3-2 OT win in Philly. The Flyers led 2-0 after one period and maintained that margin until Pat Falloon and Rob Gaudreau scored midway in the second period. Arturs Irbe made 32 saves for the Sharks.
1994 -- February 15 -- Mikael Renberg (3-1-4) had a natural hat trick in the third period and the Flyers rallied for a 6-4 win in the Flyers' first visit to San Jose Arena. It was the seventh time in Flyers' history a player scored three times in one regular season period. Eric Lindros had three (1-2-3) points and Bob Wilkie had two of his four Flyers' career points in this game. Dominic Roussel played 35:40 and was 19-for-19 in relief of Tommy Soderstrom who surrendered four goals on nine shots and was replaced early in the second period. Philly scored six times on 19 shots off Arturs Irbe. The teams combined to go 0-for-17 on the PP including San Jose's failing on 10 opportunities.
1995 -- November 16 -- Pat Falloon was traded to Philadelphia by San Jose for Martin Spanhel, Philadelphia's 1st round choice (later traded to Buffalo - later traded to Phoenix - Phoenix selected Daniel Briere) in 1996 Entry Draft and Philadelphia's 4th round choice (later traded to Buffalo - Buffalo selected Mike Martone), in 1996 Entry Draft.
1996-1999:
1996 -- January 3 -- Ron Hextall stopped 30 shots in a 3-1 win played in San Jose. Yanick Dupre scored the first of two goals in his NHL career which lasted just 35 games; he passed away in 1997 with leukemia. San Jose outshot Philly 31-19 and the lone Sharks' goal was by Marcus Ragnarsson on a PP.
1996 -- March 17 -- The Flyers repelled the Sharks 8-2 in the Spectrum. The winners were paced by John LeClair (3-1-4), Eric Lindros (0-4-4) and Pat Falloon (2-0-2); Joel Otto and Dale Hawerchuk added three points apiece. Goalie Geoff Sarjeant gave up eight goals on 24 shots.
1996 -- November 16 -- San Jose scored twice in the third period to rally for a 2-2 tie in Philly. John LeClair scored twice in the first to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Greg Hawgood's PPG with under three minutes to play evened the score. The Sharks held a 5-1 shots edge in OT. Scott Daniels and Marty McSorley fought.
1997 -- January 2 -- Ron Hextall made 26 saves and the Flyers beat nemesis (just seven wins in 30 meetings) Chris Terreri, 4-1 in San Jose. Daniel Lacroix and Eric Lindros gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the first period. The sizzling Flyers increased their unbeaten streak to 15 games (13-0-2) including a 9-0-1 run for Hextall. Lindros (11-12-23) and linemate John LeClair (12-10-22) continued their strong offense during the streak, too, with a point each.
1997 -- October 13 -- Garth Snow was fabulous with 43 saves and Eric Lindros (1-1-2) scored the GWG on a 2-on-1 break with the first shot in OT to lift Philly 3-2 in San Jose. Snow was at his best when he made 24 saves on 25 shots in the second period. Said Sharks' coach Darryl Sutter "I'm really disappointed that we lost, but not in the way we played. We had great opportunities but we couldn't put the puck past Snow." The Sharks held a 45-24 shots advantage. Shawn Burr scored both San Jose goals; he had six in 60 regular season games in his Sharks' career. Rod Brind'Amour (1-1-2) tied the game with 2:55 to play. Said Flyers' head coach Wayne Cashman "Our goaltending is the reason we won. It was as good of display as I've ever seen."
1997 -- November 20 -- San Jose beat the Flyers 3-0 in Philadelphia as Mike Vernon had 28 saves and improved his record to 18-5-3 against the Flyers (regular season and POs combined). The Sharks had just 12 shots on goal and were outshot 10-1 in the third period. Eric Lindros, who earlier fought Todd Gill, scuffled with Marty McSorley in an altercation which led to an investigation by the NHL to determine if Lindros bit McSorley on the cheek and face. The NHL reviewed video and denied the claim. Said Lindros "I didn't bite Marty. What's been talked about is just inaccurate reporting. It's unfortunate. The bottom line is it didn't occur.'' McSorley said ``He didn't bite me -- whether he tried, I can't answer that. The only problem I have is he whacked me across the face with his stick. He's a tough kid. . . . he doesn't need to do that.'' Daqrryl Sutter, San Jose's head coach, said " Everyone was overreacting big-time. I didn't see anything. They're reacting to the cut, which was from the stick, not anything else. I didn't know anything about it until I went to bed and watched ESPN. On our team, it's not an issue.''
1998 -- October 20 -- The Flyers dominated the third period (14-3 in shots, 2-0 in goals) en route to a 3-1 home victory. Colin Forbes scored the game-winner and Eric Lindros added an insurance tally in the final period. Lindros and Rod Brind'Amour each had a goal and an assist as Brind'Amour replaced Mike Maneluk on the reformed Legion of Doom Line. Mike Vernon finished with 34 saves.
1998 -- December 28 -- Eric Lindros and Joe Murphy swapped second period goals and each team had 23 shots in a 1-1 tie at San Jose. Lindros' goal was on the PP and it snapped a streak of 31 straight kills by the Sharks. San Jose goalie Mike Vernon excelled in OT when the Flyers had a 6-1 shots advantage.
1999 -- November 5 -- The Flyers dominated the Sharks in a 3-1 win in San Jose. Philly out-shot San Jose 32-16 and were 1:26 away from a JVB shutout. John LeClair, Eric Lindros (two points) and Daymond Langkow (two points) each scored and Mark Recchi added two assists.
1999 -- November 13 -- Mikael Renberg's PPG with under five to play in the second period gave the Flyers a 3-2 home win. Daymond Langkow and John LeClair also scored. The Sharks rallied from a 2-0 hole. The Flyers extended a recent run to 10-2-1 in their last 13 games after stating the season 0-5-1.
2000s:
2000 -- December 21 -- The Flyers went 3-for-4 on the PP and Rick Tocchet accounted for two of those goals in a 4-3 home win. Daymond Langkow (1-2-3) had three points and Roman Cechmanek made 25 saves. Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Sharks including a spectacular solo effort goal. San Jose's five-game winning streak was snapped. Evgeni Nabokov was replaced early in the second period, down 3-1, by Steve Shields who stopped all but one of 24 shots. 2002 -- January 2 -- San Jose scored three third period goals and won 5-2 in the newly named Compaq Center. The game was even 2-2 after 40 minutes until Gary Suter snapped the tie in the early third period. The Sharks held a 36-24 shots advantage, including 12-4 in the final period. Bryan Marchment leveled Donald Brashear with an open ice hit and the two later fought. Marchment, who also lost a fight to Todd Fedoruk, was named the game's top star.
2002 -- November 21 -- Jeremy Roenick's PPG with 7:29 to play gave the Flyers a 2-2 tie in Philly. It was their fourth tie in their last five games. Roenick's PPG snapped an 0-for-32 skid with the man advantage for the Flyers. Robert Esche, 27 saves, was brilliant throughout the game and twice stopped Teemu Selanne on breakaways. Afterwards, Selanne said "I think last year I missed two breakaways all season.'' One of his breakaways came on a 2-on-0 moments after Selanne gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Chris Therien suffered a back injury and missed the next six games.
2002 -- December 6 -- Marcus Ragnarsson was acquired from San Jose for Dan McGillis.
2002 -- December 30 -- Jonathan Cheechoo scored in the third period and the Sharks won 2-1 in the HP Pavilion at San Jose. Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves in the win. John LeClair and Simon Gagne did not play due to injuries.
2003 -- October 16 -- Jeff Hackett (27 saves) and Evgeni Nabokov (26 saves) dueled to a scoreless tie in the HP Pavilion. It was Hackett's second shutout in his first three starts for his Flyers. The shutout was Hackett's 25th of his career, the 18th for Nabokov. Each team failed to score on lengthy 5-on-3's. In OT, the Sharks nearly scored but a goal judge reviewed and rejected the possible goal.
2004 -- February 16 -- Scott Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo each had three points in San Jose's 5-2 win in Philly. The Sharks took just 20 shots, one game after taking a club-record 50 shots in a 2-1 OT win at Columbus. Jeremy Roenick and Keith Primeau were out of the Flyers' lineup. Only five minors were called in the game for a total of 10 PIMs.
2006 -- November 18 -- The Sharks scored three goals in the first and second periods and won 6-1 at home. SJ held a 25-18 shots advantage. Twelve Sharks registered points and no player getting more than two points. Robert Esche was replaced midway in the contest after surrendering six goals on 18 shots. The Sharks' Mark Bell fought ben Eager and Boyd Kane in two separate battles.
2008 -- February 21 -- San Jose recorded a 3-1 win in Philly. Mike Knuble scored with six seconds left in the second period but Milan Michalek and Doug Murray scored 42 seconds apart in the third period to negate any momentum. The Flyers lost for the ninth straight time (0-8-1) and also extended their skid in this series to seven game (0-5-2). The Flyers honored Sharks' center Jeremy Roenick for his 500th career goal (against Phoenix, third American to score that total joining Mike Modano and Joey Mullen). 2008 -- October 18 -- The Sharks rallied from a 2-goal deficit to win 5-4 (OT) in San Jose on a goal by Dan Boyle. The entertaining game was sent to an extra period when Devin Setoguchi evened the score 4-4 with 4:44 to play in regulation. The Flyers took a 4-3 lead when Daniel Briere (2-0-2) scored on a breakaway with 8:49 remaining. San Jose outshot Philly 44-17 but goaltender Antero Niittymaki recorded second star honors with his brilliant play including a tremendous glove save late in the third period with the score tied 4-4 which led Sharks' PxP man Dan Rusanowsky to say "Niittymaki, you're a thief!" in appreciation. The Flyers led 3-1 when Jeff Carter (1-1-2) scored a SHG 6:48 into the middle period, 21 seconds into a minor penalty on Luca Sbisa and 1:41 after the Flyers killed a two-minute 5-on-3 disadvantage. 2008 -- October 22 -- San Jose recorded a 7-6 victory in a (2-0) shootout in Philadelphia. Joe Pavelski and Jeremy Roenick scored for the Sharks in the extra session. San Jose led 4-3 after a wild first period. Goalie Antero Niittymaki was replaced after 20 minutes for the Flyers. The Sharks led 6-4 in the third third period but Daniel Briere's late PPG, with 65 seconds remaining, sent the game to OT. Patrick Marleau (2-2-4) led San Jose's offense. Hoping for a good win. It's gonna be hard to win assuming Richie doesn't play (which he probably won't). I liked the lines used against Florida so hopefully Stevens doesn't change them.
Will be interesting to see how Boosh does. Sharks have 3 more GP then us yet have only one more win.
Anyways, I heard Setoguchi got hurt recently. Is that true? If so then, wow, we really should be able to win this game even if Richards doesn't play (considering their injuries and how badly their team has played so far this season).

Setoguchi was injured in the Atlanta game Saturday night. A lower body injury.

I remember being at this game when I was little. It was St. Patrick's day and when Leclair scored his trick, I remember all of the green Leprechaun style hats flying onto the ice.
Hope the Flyers can get a similar result and keep the role on for 2 in a row.
Vesce's a solid player; I've watched most of San Jose's games this season and he's been noticeable.
I have a small hope that Richards will be playing and, if he does, I'd like to see the same lines; they all played very well against Florida and it'd be nice to carry that over to the Sharks.
JR was a good one in all the ways that matter. I liked the story he told in his retirement press conference, about watching Gordie Howe praactice when he was a young kid.
Well, fourth season in a row the Flyers play the Sharks. 33 goals in the last 4 games against each other. Only problem is, we haven't won one of those games. Time to change that.
Also, a few days ago I compiled the stats of the Sharks and Ducks playing each other while Pronger was with the Ducks.
