Is a King but a King off the ice?

I asked this question, with an explanation, on LAkingsnews.

I ask for your input on the subject which you can provide in the comment section of the site. Here is a link. http://lakingsnews.com/2009/10/23/is...g-off-the-ice/

Of course, I invite everyone to engage in a discussion here about it as well.

I'd say the fans don't need to know, nor do they have the right to know, anything more than what any player chooses.

Rather than speculate I'll take the case of Sheldon Kennedy and Theoren Fleury.

Both had (allegedly) similar "incidents" in their past and both dealt with it in different ways at different times.

Professional athletes are just that... professional. Despite what emotional connection we, as fans, may feel to them, their personal lives are none of our business or our concern. What matters is how the perform on the ice.

To an extent I agree....but if they do something illegal or grossly immoral then that is another story. After all these people earn their living because people are willing to pay money to watch them....I do not want to be part of a group that pays convicts.

That's horsepucky. You don't think the companies that make the food you buy or the car you drive or the gas you put in it are 100% free of employees with criminal records do you?

Joe Corvo may had a terrible lapse of judgement one night... or he may be a complete and total *******. The only difference between him and the repeat spousal abuser that bags your groceries or the genocidal CEO that owns the oil pipeline in Nigeria that makes our entire way of life possible is that Corvo has a camera on him 82 nights a year.

The players personal lives should be personal. It's all gravy if a player wants to make himself available to fans or goes out of his way to sign extra autographs for the kiddies... but at the end of the day it's still just a job.

Unless you're Rob Blake. Then you can go straight to hell.
