Dion Phaneuf NEXT Scott Stevens
Dion seems like the next stevens to me. He plays well and for sure he can deliver hits. Possibly the next Stevens!!!

I don't know, Stevens wasn't much of a leader in his early days with the Caps. Dion could grow into it.

I remember Scott Stevens actually playing some defensive hockey in his day.

Perhaps at some point in his career Phaneuf will be a great all-around player, but he still has flaws in his game.

Dion Phaneuf is the next Denis Gauthier, except Gauthier was better defensively.

There's no way to say whether or not Dion can turn into a Scott Stevens. Despite everyone's belief he is the worst actual defensive defenseman, he was only a minus player last year. A plus the years before.
Scott Stevens was also better offensively in his early years and began to grow into a defensive player while sacrificing his point totals.
Dion sure isn't even in talks with Scott Stevens as of right now, but it's a possibility.

That's it

Phaneuf needs to learn how to play defence. Yes he has 5 goals already but he is horrible defensively. Beyond horrible. He doesn't even throw hits anymore (which is fine, because if he tried he'd end up even more out of position than he normally is.)

Fantastic, somebody that makes a career out of destroying other great player's career.
Hall of Shame.
Can't believe that ********* is in the HHOF. And we wonder why hockey isn't more popular in the U.S.
