Superhero Theme (and other marketing)

So I think the whole comic book hero thing is a great idea, but isn't being executed very well. The whole concept could be pushed to be one of the team's larger themes and draw in younger kids (ads on saturday morning cartoons). The animations are pretty lame and don't really look comic book-ish, and I think the choices for which player = which character has been pretty poor (whoever made the call of casting Semin as someone 'flaming' clearly didn't think it through). My idea for the 'cast' would be:

Ovechkin - Superman (although the russian machine is the one cool animation)
Laich - Captain America (*cough*captain*cough*)
Semin - Deadpool (two hockey sticks on the back)
Green - Hulk (it works, give the hulk a red mohawk though)
Varlamov - Spiderman
Knuble - Batman
Erskine - Thor
Theodore - Ironman (although the name implies a grinder like Laich or Bradley, the actual character with all the equipment is much more suitable for a goalie)
Fleischman - The Flash (duh)
Bradley - The Thing
Schultz - Big Bird

Entire videos mixing highlights with animations could look really cool if done right (who says the opening video has to be the same every game?)

"Unleash the Red" isn't terrible, but it's not that good. "Unleash the Fury" should be "Unleash the Fury", and if you need to implement red a better slogan would be "Let's Paint this Town Red" (it might not be totally pc, i suppose, but it certainly fits both with the idea of turning DC into a Caps town where you see Caps jerseys all over the streets, and with the reckless-throw-caution-to-the-wind exciting style of play of Ovechkin and the Caps).

Lastly, has any NHL team ever tried having live music at a game (aside from the jonas brothers at the all star game, now that'll get the fans pumped up)? Now, I'm not talking superbowl type concerts at halftime with the biggest hit singers, and I realize logistically in could be tough to get a stage on and off the ice for a band to perform on. But what about recruiting some of bands that might be featured often in highlight/pump-up videos we see at the games but aren't so popular anymore. I think that'd be a great way to open up a playoff series.

This sounds like a really good way to get sued.

I think at least the "superteam" motifs they do at the Caps game at least have a lot less of cross over infringements

Caps had live music all the time at the Cap Centre. It wasn't great. Maybe I am a traditionalist, but I cannot stand the overloud piped in heavy metal.

well, they're already doing it with the actual names of the superheroes... so I don't see how it could get any more "infringing"...
