I took the post to be a fantasy keeper hockey question???

He's in the ECHL with the SC Stingrays to start the season; the same place he ended last season. He needs to improve his play, focus (and take fewer penalties as a result), and consistency to make it up to Hershey/AHL. He started in Hershey last season, but injuries resulted in missed time and then an assignment to SC.

Hershey is carrying extra D right now, with Wellar and Miskovic the most common healthy scratches. Even just looking at righty dmen/prospects, Carlson, Miskovic (first year pro) and Collins (if you consider Collins a prospect, some do, some don't) are ahead of him on the depth chart in Hershey. Plus Helmer is a righty dman.

Hershey's 8dmen at this time: Alzner, Carlson, P. McNeill, Collins, Helmer, Amadio, Miskovic, and Wellar. And the Caps are carrying 8 dmen, too. And then there are the recent draft picks including Orlov, Wey and Flemming.

Well, we were both wrong, lol.

Godfrey, who will turn 22yo in January, may have more value on a team with less prospect depth, but his value in terms of a trade can't get much lower than it is right now and he still has a year after this one on his entry level deal. The Caps don't need the contract space right now either. Still, it wouldn't shock me if he was traded at some point this season, who knows what happens, maybe they want to be patient and see what happens, maybe they don't. From observing him during camp, he didn't do much, if anything, to impress recently so it was not surprising to see the ECHL assignment.

I would always tend to give someone extra time to develop their full game if they have a quality NHL-level skill. WRT Godfrey its the shot.

It sucks that he's not showcasing that skill at a high level in these lower developmental leagues.

Colorado would be a good place for him.. not sure if they'd give up enough for him, maybe a forward prospect.

You should know by now my attitude about prospects, I have patience. Whether or not the team does, who knows. About his shot, it would help if he could improve his accuracy. And his shot alone is not going to get him to the NHL (not saying you are saying that), he has work to do in other areas as I noted.
