Something that happened during last night's game...concerning Laraque...from CKAC

It seems Laraque is in trouble again...Michel Villeneuve said on CKAC this morning that BGL stayed for too long on the ice during a 3rd period shift. Muller would have reprimand him. Then in the last minutes of the game, Laraque took someone's spot on the ice. So he jumped on the ice instead of another (probably more skilled) player even though Jacques Martin never asked him to.
Apparently he was the last player to leave the bell centre last night and had a long talk with coaching staff and other people from the organization (all very furious).

Don't know if it's true and if it was already a topic here, but I thought it was worth starting a thread.

I couldn't find a link on corus sport's web site.

Could that be the reason we had 7 players on the ice in the final minute of last nights game?

I remember Laraque not jumping on the ice late in the 3rd last year causing us to be down 1 man and getting scored on. Carbo was furious.

I remember late in the third we were running pretty much 2-3 lines and they got a shift out there, he stayed out too long and either Gionta or Cammer wasn't able to get out there with Gomez because Laroque was deep in the offensive zone. By the time he got off I believe the two others got off as well, so it took away a good opportunity for speed and skill late in the game.

Send him to the minors, bury the salary...he either goes, doesn't report and ask for a trade...either way the salary is off the books and allows a capable player to play or bring up a fighter like Conboy or Neilson to play.

If Pyatt is healthy time for a call up as well.

This was discussed by PJ Stock on the TEAM 990.

He also said the whisper is Gainey is after Streit...

It would look silly after letting him go for nothing. But who could have known Streit would turn into a legitimate #1 defenceman?

Im pretty sure it was Gionta.

Moen-Chips-Laraque were out there for awhile then Moen and Chipchura went off and Laraque stayed on and went in to forecheck after being stuck in their own zone for awhile. He was out there for a awhile, and Cammy and Gomez came out.

Laraque is useless dead wood...what are we paying him to do now?

He won't fight, players still take liberties with our guys (bbbbuttt he's like omg so menacing that no one will touch us ) oh and he doesn't know how to play hockey (one man short last year and now possibly this...)

Cue his defenders saying he's the NHL heavyweight champion

I've been saying this since Day 1, waive him already Bob, you'll save 1.5 million on the cap.

1.5 million in our situation right now would be a breath of fresh air.

Laraque frustrates me so much. I'm kind of in the old school mentality that a team should have a goon, a policeman. Not necessarily for being aggressive, but more for responding to other teams trying to intimidate, calming them down. Have you ever seen a scrum where the other team is acting tough when Laraque is on the ice?

Problem is, Laraque is a little bit too nice on the ice. I wish we had someone a little bit more mental and who could win fights. No use having a punching bag.

First 2/3 games I thought Laraque had woken up this year, but last night he was pretty terrible and ineffective.

Laraque is trying to prove that he's a legitimate NHL'er

That's essentially why he's messing-up.

He wants to score a goal or set-up a man more than he actually wants to drop the gloves.

He doesn't want to be attached to the stigma of a brainless goon who collects a pay check because he's willing to cash-in doing the dirty work.

Hence, dog walking pics, protesting outside fur tradeshows, becoming a vegan, deking out hot chicks instead of killing super bad guys...

What's next - children's books?

All i ever do when he is on the ice is yell at my screen, telling to him at least get the puck deep or do more than just hold onto the puck along the boards until he loses it. HE IS THE MOST USELESS PLAYER EVER. He doesn't even use his body in a physical way. He never hits, and only fights the guys that are worthy of him or are just plain psycho enough for him to fight. He rarely stands up for his teammates either. He's slow and useless. I basically pray that he gets injured every game, and that metropolit comes back soon. The fourth line doesn't have to be this useless.

It's hard to believe that guy had a hat trick in the past...

Also hard to believe he would take someone else's spot on purpose, but I guess we'll never know...

We shoulda got Donald Brashear when he was available. Better yet, he shoulda never been traded in the first place. This code crap that Laraque follows so strictly is stupid, he should be laying a beating on anyone who takes advantage of our skill guys. Anyone noticed BGL standing aroung doing nothing when Gilbert Brule cheapshotted Chipchura, yet Paul Mara jumped in immediately. There is no way Brash would have just stood there.

I was at the game, and noticed this. Gomez and Gionta jumped on the ice, and then all of a sudden, I notice Laraque out there with them. I was like, WTF is he doing on this line so late in the game when were down by 1?

I guess this explains it all.

Getting Streit back would be awesome. Down the road we'd have Markov-Streit-Spacek

I don't know if there'd be a more offensively efficient D in the league.
