at first, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not - but after hearing the story (that the creator made a big mural, and then every medal is a piece of that, and every single medal is unique), I really like that aspect. (AND they look cooler than 2002's bent version too).
I wish they would highlight more of Canada's (and BC's) history and heritage than just the native aspects. There's a lot of history and a lot of diversity to build from.
On a sheer aesthetic angle, love them. The backstory behind them is pretty neat too...but in comparison to 2002's Salt Lake medals, anything looks fantastic.
The more I read about them the more I like them, although at first glance they looked pretty boring. Some of the greatest things need time to grow on you, I think this will be one of those things.
Just the fact that every single medal will be completely unique, is incredible.
Those are some pretty sweet medals. I agree with HellasLEAF tho, medals are things that shouldn't be played around with. You keep em the way they were.
the winter olympics, I think always had "customized" medals. I think that goes back to Albertville (but Lillehammer def). I can't remember the exact reasoning, but some years I agree that it should be the regular olympic medal with a different ribbon.... but then you see something really amazing (like the Nagano Medals - those were GORGEOUS and really unique), and it makes you wonder what each winter country will come up with and what the story behind it will be
wow...im not a fan of it but not against it either...its just unique in its own way but still for a huge event like this..i think it should be more of a standard medal really.
I think the medals have a neat design. Really love the idea that each medal is unique from one another.

Couldn't agree with this more! If they are showcasing B.C. and Canada, I don't think the natives and inuit will be the attraction people come to see.
