Hockey Laces Around Pants

Why do players use hockey skate laces as a belt around their pants? Wouldn't getting smaller pants fix that problem?

Personal preference. Maybe it's something he used growing up and just got used to. Or maybe he likes having bigger sized loose pants (doesn't look like it). Everything regarding equipment in hockey basically boils down to personal preference.

they dont use them for the belt. its for the lace up part of the breezer. when that crappy black short lace falls apart. what do you have plenty of--- skate laces. now it has become a fashion statement to wear the big lace.

I used the big lace for a bunch of games in the middle of last season. My scoring was way down with it, so I switched back to one of those short black things, and I started scoring again. Go figure.

Yeah, it's for the lace up part of the pant. More of a fashion thing in that case. You can cut them shorter and they won't be seen if you're just looking to replace a broken lace.

I have seen guys tie laces around their pants though. Usually that happens when the belt breaks and the pant is falling apart.
