It's trap time.
We're not skilled enough to play a high tempo - often pinching style of game. Our goaltending isn't strong enough either.
Let's do the trap! It'll be boring, but it might give us a chance.
Thoughts?

To trap you need good defensive players...

They need to do something different in the first period - sit back and wait till the other team takes a penalty perhaps...
Refs missed some obvious calls against Colorado (Hannan and Anderson) are two that would have been called against toronto...

If that happens. I all for it.
But RW is not the man to teach this team. Even though he can play trap. He is too soft and so lost as a human being. Damn he looked like a mummy out there tonight. I liked him, not anymore. Get the **** out of Toronto RW! Spit on your hand.

You really need to work with a lead for the trap to make a bit of sense.
...so yeah, focus on getting a lead and go from there.

Don't have the size or right components to implement a defensive system.

I've been saying this for 3 years now... Every team has tried the trap at one point or another except the leafs, a team that ironically has no offensive talent what so ever.
Why not give it a try? it worked for the Devils and Wild

The Devils had Marty in net and the Wild had Backstrom.
We have...Jesus, who the hell do we have in net now?

I think we're a loss or two away from playing 5 defensemen,
Just toss em out there for 60 minutes and don't let them leave the zone. Then stack the Shootout with snipers

Is it legal to just pile all 5 of your players into the net behind your goalie?

The trap was developed as a way for lower skilled teams to compete with stronger, more talented teams. Size is secondary to speed and positioning in the trap.

I honestly don't care. Get us to a tie, keep that routine up in OT and see what we can do in a shootout.
I just want a win

Toronto Maple Leafs in association with the Toronto Argonauts bring you the starting defensive line in goal!
all 5 280+lb men can just lie ontop of eachother to form a wall of flesh that goes to the top of the net and fills the crease.
Then in the shootout we just let kessel kadri bozak tlusty crush it.
Plus imagine the trade value on one of those 60 minute a game +0 players!
OMG! 2 of them might get us malkin!

The trap doesn't work well in the new NHL. If we use it, we might lose some games and we don't want that

I laughed.
This team and this whole coaching thang is so ****in awful... I'm just spitting on my toes right here, at this very moment. Also yelling at the ceiling why is that white.
Get some new players, these didn't work! Get some new goalies too! Some of these didn't work! Period. Why not do that? Where the **** is that PK-killer Wayne Primeau by the way??????????????? He can win some faceoffs also.

The trap is very effective is positioned correctly...this team is having a hard enough time doing anything right I'm not sure a trap style would make any difference. Plus the fact that you need competent defense and good goaltending which we don't have. You can get away with having mediocre defense but having the goalie is crucial. The two teams known for this style happen to have two of the better goalies in the NHL one being the best of all time.
