Who’s the best GM in hockey? Who’s the worst GM in hockey? Corywilkins.ca E-magazine ranks the general managers one through 30 in its latest issue. The league’s 30 GMs are ranked top to bottom, with an emphasis on the four post-lockout seasons and overall playoff success.
Also includes: * Exclusive interview with former Tampa Bay Lightning GM Jay Feaster
* Profile on Brian Burke and how he will rebuild the Maple Leafs
Check out the rest of the list at www.corywilkins.ca
5 full seasons as GM, 2 playoff series wins. His latest debacle includes letting young star defenseman Komisarek walk, and patched up the defensive unit by signing 3 journey men.
No. Just for the Redden singing alone, he deserves to be ranked 31st.
I'm Slater's biggest critic, but I will say this: he's a good trader. I have him ranked 30th as far as signing players go (he just can't help himself), but he's a top 5 trader.
EDIT: Damn, Sather. This is what I get for posting at midnight.
How the heck can the addition of Pat Quinn be less than spectacular, while you say that the Khabibulin move was a great move? (BTW, alot of people hate the Khabibulin move, i'm not one of them)

the heck do you rank GM's? Top 5 I understand, but all 30?
You listen to Eklunds buzzcast...
Stan Bowman should be at the bottom solely for handcuffing his team with the Campbell contract and setting up his club to be in cap hell come next years when the cap drops a ton.

If it's current, Lou Lams has no business being at 2 anymore...as much as respect what he did in rebuilding the Devils from '88, the three Cups, the consistent defensive dynamo (4, 27, Daneyko, Madden, Pando, etc.)
But come on, that's a team that employs Mike Mottau (in the top four?), Colin White makes $3 million more than he should, Brian Rolston is on an "irreversible" at more than $5 million per year, Jay Pandolfo was among the worst forwards in the league last year, he's getting $2.5 million (although, maybe he's owed something from his years of service), Rob Niedermayer makes as much or more than Manny Malhotra and Blair Betts and the like...Bryce Salvador somehow found his way to Colin White money...
I mean, it's not all bad...Parise's contract, Paul Martin being on the team, Zajac's deal is pretty good...but then he'll go and sign Andrew Peters for purposes of playing him in the NHL when P3L is already on the team...I don't know...I really think he lost his magic touch and his touch with today's game...

I know it's early, but we would be remiss to not include Bob Murray from Anaheim high on the list...look at his deadline deals, look at the Pronger deal, this guy is getting rid of guys and getting young, cheaper talent in return and still putting out a playoff team...fantastic asset manager, great vision in the new cap world, he really gets it...
Bob Murray is the next big GM in this league for sure...

Not sure how that contract could possibly be on Stan Bowman.
