Wilson...bubble?

When Ron Wilson became the Leafs coach last year he talked about the importance of establishing a solid defensive system. The results ... among the worst penalty killing and goals against records in the league. So far this year not much has changed in these two areas.

If there is one area a good coach can influence its team defense. A little over one year into his tenure and Wilson's teams continue to struggle.

I will say this if the Leafs fail to make the playoffs Wilson will be on a short leash after this year.

I think he will be here as long as Burke is here (which is another 4 years at least).

ha ha. no one is safe after 2 disappointing losses. if the team goes winless in 12, then yes he should be canned.

Gotta be kidding. Wilson is one of the best coaches in the league. It's all about the team's level of talent and a chance for them to play together as a team. We're two game in. Look at Maurice after he got dumped. He charged the Hurricanes up the standings and gave Pittsburgh a run. Next thing you know, we're going to be trying to get rid of Allaire, one of the best goalie coaches in the league, because our goals against is high after two games.

That is the correct opinion.

When the player charged with being the shutdown defenceman makes mental mistakes and the goaltender is fighting the puck then systems don't even come into the situation.

I wouldn't fire wilson. He has meant so much to this offence. Like it or not he is a offensive minded coach. His team in san jose had the best penalty kill when he was there, so I know he can do it here to. We should worry about our goaltending and not the coach. I have never seen a coach take on the toronto media so well. He was made for us.

One of the smartest coaches ever in the NHL. Almost won the Cup with the caps.... if only Esa Tikkanen would have scored on that wide open spot, when the caps were ahead 4-2 in game 2 or game 3 I think it was... the game would have been 5-2 in the dirty third, but tikkanen missed that chance.... after that, detroit came back 4-4 and won it in overtime. Wilson was a mutha****a after that there.

Ronny still got that fire. He dat dude. He cocky. So is Toskala. Toskala should retire, with the bottle.

Way ... Way .... way too early but...

If this team is floundering 3 months from now looking like a lottery pick team, you know that Wilson will become a target with Burke sticking out his neck trading away 2 1st round picks on the assumption that this team will be at the very least be a competitive team.

We dominated the play, and nearly beat a significantly more talented Montreal.

Washington is probably the best team in the league. Ovechkin is probably the best player in the world. We're not supposed to beat them. Relax.

yes. he's on the bubble. he's p_ssing me off these days. i wish he would stop trying to out smart the media and start coming up with some wins. i also thought he should have pulled the monster when ottawa iced the puck at the 2 min. mark. instead he pulled him at the 1 min. mark. this team does not have the stuff to retrieve pucks & be crafty with 1 min. left to play. yes they need 2 min. to muster up the a scoring chance with the goalie pulled.

i disagree 100%. no coach should be that safe in their jobs. win or get fired (and GTFO). if this team slides there's no way he can keep his job. if this team really tanks (***two 1sts and a 2nd*** remember?), Burke will fire his a_s so fast.

I never really thought he can do much as a coach in SJ he underachieved during playoff time and he made it into the finals with the Caps riding on a hot goalie then getting swept and him with the media is brutal, there must be a better coach for the leafs

i don't think wilson is a great coach by any means. he makes some stupid choices.

he has an angry, condescending demeanor, which for some reason people equate with knowing what he's doing and being a great coach. much the same as burke. the attitude of these two and the way they talk gives off the impression that they're smarter than anyone else. its weird.

i don't really think wilson is burke's guy. he's just the caretaker while this team isn't very good. whenever this team is ready to take it to the next level, wilson will be out.

Wilson's system works. You don't get all the wins he's gotten out of luck. Last year he simply didn't have the personnel to work it. This year I believe he does. I'll make my call on him after this season. We should be much better in the GAA area this season.

It's still way too early to tell as the team hasn't reallye gelled yet. Having Gustavsson in net more will help too.
