B-flat
It was only one game. And as coach Claude Julien promised, you can throw down a fistful of bucks in Las Vegas that Games 2 through 82 will be far better showings than last night’s 4-1 season-opening thud.

In opener, there was nothin' Bruin'
I’d be very disappointed if I had to go in there and explain to them what happened,’’ Julien had said – rather succinctly, in fact – only a short time earlier. Added the coach, "I don’t think that’s the kind of game you want to play in your home building in front of your home fans."

It’s a hit-and-miss beginning for Morris
“I think at times, we played well,’’ Morris said after last night’s 4-1 loss. “But we got away from it at times. We turned the puck over a lot in the neutral zone. We didn’t get our chips by their D, things like that.

“We did that at the start of the game. We had a lot of pressure early. For some reason, we got away from it.’’

Opening night falls flat
The Bruins [team stats] handed out thousands of those cheering towels for fans to wave at their home opener last night at TD Garden. The bright yellow towels read, “Hibernation always ends in October.”

Well, not on Oct. 1 it didn’t - at least not for the flat, slow and sleepy Bruins.

Alex Ovechkin steals spotlight
The Bruins [team stats] opened their season last night to great fanfare and incredibly lofty expectations, from Stanley Cup-starved fans as well as puck pundits throughout North America.

But it didn’t take long for Alexander Ovechkin to steal the show.

B's no match for Caps in opener

BOSTON -- The Bruins - and their fans - hadn't waited four and a half months for this.

The Bruins headed into this season with higher expectations than they've had in decades, but the opening act didn't exactly reinforce those heady thoughts as Boston was humbled 4-1 by the high-powered Capitals Thursday night at the Garden.

Bruins finding life hard at top
BOSTON — The Bruins should go back to last year's slogan, because "Big and Bad are Back" only works when "We Want It as Bad as You."

The Bruins didn't want Thursday night's season opener as badly as the Washington Capitals

Ovechkin & Co. take the air out of Bruins on Opening Night at Garden
“We didn’t sustain the tempo we had in the first 10 minutes,” coach Claude Julien said after the far more energetic Washington Capitals beat his team pretty handily. “Not that we couldn’t, we just didn’t ... You’ve got to be focused for 60 minutes in this game, and we weren’t.”

Krejci completes ahead-of-schedule arrival
BOSTON — Commuters and longer-distance travelers might find it hard to believe, but Boston was the site of an ahead-of-schedule arrival Thursday: Bruins center David Krejci, who faced a four- to six-month recovery period from June 4 hip surgery, was cleared to play the 2009-2010 season opener.

Capital punishment
BOSTON — Zdeno Chara still may be the best shutdown defenseman in the NHL, but even Superman had his Kryptonite.

In Chara’s case, it was too much exposure to Alex Ovechkin.

Recchi enjoying senior moment
“It’s still exciting,” Recchi said of his enthusiasm for the game. “You still get butterflies at this stage, and it’s a great feeling. You’ve still got to get excited about it. When you don’t, then it’s time to walk away. But it’s still awesome right now.”

Anyone else feel like Morris is turning into this year's Aaron Ward with the media already? I feel like he's always giving interviews etc.

It's a different style though...he doesnt really joke around , he's just well spoken and so thrilled to be out of phoenix he is happy to talk to the media...He's a real leader out there and looks good so far.
