Hey from Spokane! Kyle Beach and the Chiefs had two games this weekend and won both of them. Fri 5-2 vs Prince Albert Raiders and Sat 4-1 vs Seattle Thunderbirds.
Beach has 4PIM on Fri and 1G 1A +1 5PIM and 3rd Star on Sat.
To date: 5GP 4G 2A +3 17PIM
Beach has seem to be a great addition to the Chiefs. He playing great hockey and if he can keep his attitude under wraps it's no telling what he will be able to do this season. He's got a reputation as being an agitator and pain in the ass. Everyone in the league knows who he is. If he stays out of the box/out of trouble and plays his best hockey which I know he can, all I can say is OMG!
Do you want the positive or the negative first? How about I combine them? On the positive, few defenders in the OHL can rush the puck up ice like Lalonde. His skating ability and confidence with the puck is tremendous. The thing I've always really liked about Lalonde's game is that he actually makes something of his rushes. It always bugs me when defenders (with Lalonde's skill set) bring the puck effortlessly up ice, but then just dump it in rather than continue over the blueline and help set up shop in the offensive zone. Lalonde has the confidence to continue his rushes. On the negative side, he needs to do it less. It feels like every time he carries the puck up ice, it's like he has to make something of it even if he has to force it. And when he does gain access to the offensive zone, he doesn't return fast enough to the defensive end. He needs to be a lot smarter in making these decisions and realize he's a defender first and foremost. On the positive, his shot from the back end is lethal and creates many scoring chances. On the powerplay especially, he does a tremendous job of getting open to unleash it. Two of Belleville's goals were scored off of Lalonde's point shots tonight. On the negative, he needs to make better decisions with the puck, especially on the powerplay. Because of poor passes or forced attempts, Lalonde's sloppiness led to 3 shorthanded odd man rushes during the game. Luckily enough, none led to goals, however one did lead to a forced penalty by Lalonde in order to prevent a goal and this negated a Bulls powerplay. On the positive, he can be an very effective one on one defender, especially using his speed to stay with forwards. On the negative, he rarely puts himself in position to play defense. On Daniel Pachis' first rush where he broke through the Bulls defensive line, Lalonde was caught standing there watching. Then he failed to hurry back to the zone to pick up the trailer and Alain Berger put in a rebound. Now don't get me wrong, I like Lalonde as a player and a prospect. I think he's just trying to do too much right now with so much talent leaving Belleville this year.
I'm not as sure about the D-pairs.. maybe something like this:
Petiot-Phillips
SDP-Boyle
Brennan-Connelly
The Brophy line played some dominating hockey and often kept the pressure in their offensive zone for most of their shifts. Aliu looked as well as he did in the camps - very strong on the puck and along the boards. He scored a goal but I missed it.. looked like a well-placed wrister from the replay but I couldn't tell.
Klinkhammer played a good game and I heard a lot of Wolves fans wanting the team to keep Klink away from the puck. His goal was a great wrap-around that beat Legace.. really long reach from behind (he is bigger than I realized) and good awareness to get it through all the traffic. The Cullen line was pretty good, too, but I sort of expected a line of veterans to look strong.
My biggest impression probably came from Brian Connelly. He is a stud on the power play, albeit a small stud. He ran a beauty of a 2-on-1 with Bois, who scored the goal. Later, he set up Cullen's goal with a good diagonal pass from the point. I honestly didn't see much of him defensively.
Bit of a change of pace to visit the Allstate.. but I can't say that I mind a nearly empty arena. There were no lines in the restrooms or at concessions at least.
I want to see Makarov wearing the Indian head sweater, soon. Last year he was by far the best prospect at training camp and was a scoring threat every shift. I hope he gets here before they lose him.
His coming over most likely depends on what happens with the salary cap fiasco this summer. If the Hawks are forced to give up alot of depth, I'm sure they'll consider him but probably only as a fall back option at best. Also depends on what kind of coin hes looking for. Im sure more than what hes worth.
Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced on Tuesday that defenseman Jonathan Carlsson has been reassigned from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League to the Toledo Walleye (ECHL).
Carlsson, 21, has appeared in six games for Rockford in his first season in North America. The Uppsala, Sweden native has been held scoreless in those games while recording six penalty minutes. The young blue liner was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft as the 162nd pick overall (Round 6).
He skated in a career high 55 games with Brynas IF Gavle in the Swedish Elite League in 2008-09, notching an assist and 78 penalty minutes. In 109 games at the professional level, Carlsson has notched seven points (3g-4a) and 119 penalty minutes.
edit: This should be in the prospect thread. Just move it. Thx.
