Countdown to Opening Day - Poll #1 - Team MVP

With the pre-season over for the Canucks, the regular season puck drop is only a few days away. To get a bit of discussion going to fill in the time, I'll be making a poll each day to get Canuck fan voices on a few topics and then revist them at season's end.

Today's poll is who do you believe who will win the Cyclone Taylor Trophy (Vancouver Canucks MVP) for the 2009-2010 season?

The reigning trophy winner is Ryan Kesler.

I think that if we want any shot at a cup Luongo has to be the team's MVP

As long as he stays healthy, Luongo is this teams MVP for the next 5 years at least

Minus Louie, it'll be Bernier.

Luongo, with a dark horse vote for Edler.

He'll be counted on to play big minutes this season, and I think he will flourish on the PP with either Salo or Schneider.

Results speak for themselves... Luongo will carry this team. The only thing I'm worried about is Luongo playing so many games this year... I hope they let Raycroft start 15 games just to minimize the injury risk to Luongo.

+1. Unless the Sedins have 90-point campaigns.

I'm going with Kesler.

Contract year. Due for a breakout. Plus he's an all around player with grit that can easily be seen as team MVP type.

I'm surprised I'm the only one thus far.

There's a difference between who is our MVP and who will get the award.

Our MVP has always been Luongo, however, I believe Henrik will get the award. He seems poised to have a big year.

If Luongo's ever going to win a Vezina, this is the year so obviously I went with him. He's playing behind the best team he's ever played behind, and our defense looks deeper than it ever has. Combine that with New Jersey looking weaker than they have in awhile (Brodeur on a so so team) and we could see Louie walk away with the hardware this Summer.

I think Roberto feels he has something to prove after the debacle in Chicago, and this could be a big year for him

3 votes for Hank and 1 for Daniel? Why...

Barring injury (bite my tongue), I don't see how Luongo doesn't get this. Doubt they'll give it to Kesler again... seeing as the administration will want him to sign his contract next year for a bit cheaper.

I would agree if it wasn't an Olympic year. I think he's gonna be a bit burned out starting in March and his numbers might suffer because of it. I think he's gonna need to take a few more games off than usual during the season.

Meh, the same can be said for a lot of the Vezina contenders though, can't it? I mean there's a lot of the guys who are up for it year after year who will be top 2 guys on their olympic team so unless someone like Cam Ward wins it this year, they're all going to have to deal with that.

Wow, I knew I wasn't exactly thinking outside the box picking Lou, but that's hilarious. It goes to show though that the fans are pretty optomistic about this team and about its ability to have its best player be its best player.

Even if the Twins have 95 points a piece its still Luongo's. People can't decide which Sedin to vote for, as they can't justifiably choose one over the other, so they pick someone else entirely. One of them should have been team MVP last season, and in 05-06 which lead to Alex freaking Auld winning it.

because they are barely first liner, and kesler gives a much better effort every game despite having less talent.

this is the biggest year of luongo's career too

with a gold medal and a deep playoff run, he can shed every label everyone's ever thrown at him

Don't you think it's time you stop beating this drum?

I don't really feel like explaining this one to you, but let me break it down real quick. There are 90 first-line players in the NHL (3 players on a line x 30 teams in the league). If the twins were in the 60 - 90 range you'd have a point, but they finished tied for 13th with Mike Cammalleri.

PPG players are not barely first liners.

How could you possibly say they are giving less effort than Ryan Kesler. Perceived effort and actual effort are two different things. Just because Kesler looks like he's hustling more (and because he's just a great skater) doesn't mean the Sedins aren't giving an equal amount of effort.
