Brisebois takes a shot back at some journalists

I expect that this will likely be attached to another Brisebois thread but here goes anyway...

Patrice Brisebois, during his retirement announcement speech, commented on the impact of the media on him, on his family, on his play.

He talked about the damage that was done by media people who, in effect, maliciously commented on his presence in the Canadiens team. He even mentioned a couple of press men, Jack Todd & Michel Blanchard.

On 'L'attaque à cinq', the five men discussing the issue commented about how the media can be vicious towards those on whom they are commenting. One of them was even kind of relieved that his name wasn't mentioned along with Todd & Blanchard. I bet there were a great number more who could be included in that list. Even Jean Perron talked about what his family (kids) suffered when he was the coach of the Canadiens.

I know that this is a well beaten horse of a topic but it's one that aggravates me because it's a fine example of abuse of power. The darn thing is it's still going on and will continue to do so as long as people are willing to do unto others what they wouldn't want done unto themselves. Ironically, but not surprisingly, Jean Perron is doing the same thing as was done to him... you'd think that he would have learned.

Not really an abuse of power more of a lack of intelligence on the masses to form their own opinion of things rather than be led like lambs to the slaughter.

.... is that really considered a long post?

Also, Jack Todd is an idiot, but he makes me laugh sometimes.

Read my third paragraph. If you understand French, it's on rds.ca/video/visionneuse.html under 'retraite de Brisebois' in the Canadiens section.

In an rds.ca/canadien text article, he's quoted as saying: "Ces deux journalistes ont fait mal à ma réputation. Ils ont fait mal à ma famille. Je me souviens, ma mère me téléphonait en pleurant. Moi, je n'étais qu'un petit gars qui voulait jouer au hockey. On a attaqué ma vie personnelle, et ça, je ne le prendrai jamais."

Translation: These two journalists damaged my reputation. They hurt my family. I remember my mother telephoning me in tears. Me, I was just a little kid who wanted to play hockey. They attacked my personal (ie: private) life and that I will never accept.

I can only hope that other players will do the same - personally take to task those who attack them for what amounts only as career advancement or the capture of the public ear. I don't know if it'll help in the end but it would be good to see such a debate take place.

Yeah the Brisebois press conference was really moving. He never deserved all the bs that he got while he was in Montreal. The fact that he endured so much crap for so many years, I'm glad he went out with the crowd cheering for him.

Did he say anything about the fans constantly being on his ass for a while and booing him, or Gainey subsequently standing up for him?

Could you clarify what he said, even summed up quickly, in regards to those issues?
