This guy plays like a NHL defensemen. He has poise doesn't panic and carries he puck out of his own end with confidence. No wonder the Leafs traded Anton Stralman. We still have a glut of Dmen but Gunnarsson should defintely stay. Looks good!!!!

He may need some time with the Marlies but he could be a regular as early as the end of this season.
Looks like he could be a good player for such a late round pick.
Agreed. If Stralman wanted out it definitely gave Gunnarsson this chance to be there. Looks ok so far, a season on the Marlie's with a call up or two will show what he's got.
Drafted in the 7th round a few years ago I believe.
Played in SEL for the past couple of seasons and was on Team Sweden at the World Championships. Burke was there trying to get Gustavsson and I guess he noticed Gunnarsson and signed him .
Gunnerson played very good tonight. He is very mobile, for his size plays a really good defensive game, takes the body when needed and is very smooth with the puck and is a good passer. He definitely looks like a future NHL d man. But with the logjam at D he will be sent down to the Marlies. But he looks like a keeper.
He didn't play well in the rookie tournament, but he's turned it around for sure. I notice he's a little impatient with his point shots and they are often blocked, but that's nothing that can't be remedied with experience.
He's been solid, little offensive game which is pretty much what all his scouting reports said. Probably a year in the AHL to get some seasoning and he could have a chance with the big club. Cheap alternatives are always a luxury.

Hmmm, the Gunnarsson I saw in the rookie tournament looked very poised.
I remember a play; when he had the puck in his own zone he waited for a forward to become open. When no player was available he rushed the puck up ice himself, stick-handled through two Penguins before dumping it.

Great name too .
You better mention he's a JFJ draft, or Burkie will have you in his dog house
In terms of talent he is. Gunnarsson is a more simple kind of defenseman, atleast compared to the more complexed Strålman. But I think the both of them would have made a perfect pair with Gunnarsson the more defensive of the two and Strålman being the one joining the rushes. Gunnarsson always impressed me when his team in the SEL played my home town team FBK. Good positioning, a threat going forward and toughness (at SEL level that´s). I think he with time can play in the NHL as he did in the SEL. The thing is that once Strålman is able to do that he will be a top defenseman on his team.
