The Flyers were 3-for-10 on PPs. Terry Carkner and Bob Probert got into a heated scrap:

  • October 1, 1992 -- Brent Fedyk was traded to Philadelphia by Detroit for the Flyers' 4th round choice (later traded to Boston) in the 1993 Entry Draft.
  • December 11, 1992 -- Detroit scored four second period goals, including two by Dino Ciccarelli, in a 4-2 home win. The Flyers scored twice in the third period. Dominic Roussel was replaced after the second period for Stephane Beauregard who saved all 16 shots he faced.
  • January 17, 1993 -- Steve Yzerman (1-4-5) had five points and Detroit recovered from an early three-goal deficit to win 7-4 in Philadelphia. The Flyers scored an even-strength goal, a PPG and a SHG to lead 3-0 12:23 into the first period. The Red Wings responded with the next four goals and held a 4-3 lead after two periods. Keith Acton tied the game with a third period goal but Dino Ciccarelli scored with 9:57 remaining for the eventual GWG. Sheldon Kennedy made it 6-4. Tim Cheveldae picked up the win by making 23 saves. Tommy Soderstrom made 29 stops in the loss.
  • February 22, 1993 -- Brent Fedyk's goal with 0.8 seconds left gave Philly a 5-5 OT tie in Richfield, Ohio (neutral-site game). The Flyers were the designated home team and attendance for the Monday night game was 13,282. Mark Recchi gave Philly a 1-0 lead but Detroit responded by taking a 3-1 second-period lead. Goals by Eric Lindros and Greg Paslawski tied the game at 3-3 after two. The Red Wings netted two late third-period goals to take a 5-3 lead. However, Recchi scored again at 17:18 to make the score 5-4 setting up Fedyk's heroics. Dino Ciccarelli (2-1-3) had three points. Steve Yzerman initially was credited with his 1,000th career point but after the game he informed the official scorer that he didn't touch the puck on the given assist. The NHL subtracted the assist per his request after watching video replays and a point was credited to Steve Chiasson. Two night later, Yzerman got his 1,000th in a 10-7 loss to Buffalo.
  • December 23, 1993 -- Tim Cheveldae made 28 saves and Sergei Federov had two points in the second period in Detroit's 3-1 win in Philadelphia. The Wings added an ENG. Garry Galley of Philly was tossed for a boarding major in the first period.
  • June 20, 1993 -- Greg Johnson was traded to Detroit by Philadelphia with Philadelphia's 5th round choice (Frederic Deschenes) in the 1994 Entry Draft for Jim Cummins and Philadelphia's 4th round choice (previously acquired, later traded to Boston - Boston selected Charles Paquette) in the 1993 Entry Draft, June 20, 1993.
  • September 9, 1993 -- Stewart Malgunas was traded to Philadelphia by Detroit for Philadelphia's 5th round choice (David Arsenault) in 1995 Entry Draft.
  • October 5, 1993 -- Terry Carkner was traded to Detroit by Philadelphia for Yves Racine and Detroit's 4th round choice (Sebastien Vallee) in 1994 Entry Draft.
  • February 11, 1994 -- Steve Yzerman scored two SHGs (and had three points) in Detroit's 6-3 home win. The Red Wings led 3-0 after one period and chased Dominic Roussel for Tommy Soderstrom but the Flyers rallied to get within a goal before Dallas Drake increased the lead to 4-2. The Wings had three SHGs including two in the first period.
  • November 24, 1995 -- Garth Snow stopped 36 shots and Eric Lindros scored twice and the Flyers ended Detroit's seven-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory in the Spectrum. Eric Desjardins had a pair of assists on two PPGs in the second period.
  • December 5, 1995 --The Red Wings defeated Philly 5-3 in Detroit, ending the Flyers' eight-game winning streak. Detroit appeared to be in command with a 4-0 lead but Brent Fedyk scored goals in the second and third periods followed by Chris Therien's goal with under five minutes to play; Detroit finished the scoring with an ENG.
  • January 22, 1997 -- Ron Hextall made 32 saves and John LeClair scored just past the midway point of the third period in a 2-2 OT tie at Detroit. Trent Klatt scored in the first period but Detroit pulled ahead when Nicklas Lidstrom and Vladimir Konstantinov tallied in a 53-second span during the opening 3:35 of the second period. Steve Yzerman had two assists. Detroit held a 34-20 shots advantage including 3-0 in OT. The teams combined for 0-for-13 on PPs. "They have
one loss in 22 games (15-1-6) or something like that, that's a quarter of a season. They're a very confident team. They talk about meeting a team at the right time. We had a little break in that they played last night. But that was probably overcome by the fact they're young and confident," said Red Wings' head coach Scotty Bowman.
  • January 25, 1997 -- Detroit scored twice on the PP and recorded a 4-1 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers lost for the second time in the last 23 games (15-2-6). Tomas Holmstrom and Brendan Shanahan scored 34 seconds apart in the first period to give Detroit a 2-0 lead. Kris Draper scored 33 seconds after Rod Brind'Amour scored in the second period. Steve Yzerman finished the scoring. Ron Hextall surrendered four goals on 15 shots and was replaced by Garth Snow, who stopped all 16 shots he faced. The Red Wings held a 31-18 shots advantage. Petr Svoboda-Kris Draper fought --http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xeIoel1BGU . Eric Lindros checked Vlad Konstantinov -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sE8f...spx?Game=22852
  • June 1, 1997 -- In Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals, Mike Vernon made 26 saves and Joey Kocur scored the go-ahead goal to lead the Red Wings to a 4-2 win in Philadelphia. It was the Red Wings' first victory in a Stanley Cup Finals since 1966. Kocur's goal came on a turnover by defenseman Kjell Samuelsson who was playing in just his second game since January 9 after neck surgery. The Flyers committed multiple turnovers in the game and Eric Lindros later said of the loss that the Flyers "coughed up the puck too many times." Ron Hextall made 26 saves. Defenseman Petr Svoboda took a shot off the foot, which swelled, and he missed the remainder of the series. Afterwards, head coach Terry Murray said of Steve Yzerman's opening minute-third period goal which gave the Wings a 4-2 lead "We gave up a real soft goal, we've got to have those stops." Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoG9fkuiir4
  • June 3, 1997 -- In Game Two of the Stanley Cup Finals, Mike Vernon made 29 saves and Kirk Maltby scored the go-ahead goal to lead the Red Wings to a 4-2 win in Philadelphia. Detroit led 2-0 in the first before Rod Brind'Amour scored two PPGs in 1:09 to close out the first. Brendan Shanahan scored the first and last goals of the game. Garth Snow made 24 saves in the loss but a long slapshot goal by Maltby early in the second period was the turning point and Detroit led 3-2. Paul Coffey took a Darren McCarty shoulder to the jaw late in the game and did not play in the two games at Detroit. Coffey, who began the season with the Red Wings but was criticized by his then-head coach Scotty Bowman (and was traded to the Hartford Whalers then dealt to the Flyers), was on the ice for six of Detroit's eight goals through the first two games and was in the penalty box for a seventh. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3W8PKhAlHY
  • June 5, 1997 -- In Game Three of the Stanley Cup Finals, Sergei Federov (2-2-4) and Martin Lapointe each scored twice in Detroit's 6-1 win. The Red Wings' went 3-for-5 on the PP while the Flyers went just 1-for-7. Mike Vernon made 21 saves. The Flyers took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game on a John LeClair PPG, the first lead the team had in the series, but Steve Yzerman evened the game on a PPG exactly two minutes later and 19 seconds into an Eric Desjardins' penalty. With Paul Coffey and Petr Svoboda absent due to injuries, Michel Petit (for Coffey) and Karl Dykhuis (for Svoboda) played; Dykhuis, unfortunately, committed a key turnover which led to Federov's first period GWG and the Wings' forward later said of the play "He fell over. I think the ice was funny in that place." Lapointe made it 3-1 with one minute left in the opening period. Detroit led 5-1 after two periods with Brendan Shanahan scoring in the final minute of the middle period. Post-game, Flyers' head coach Terry Murray made his infamous "in a choking situation" comment about his team's play and among the comments was "Eric (Lindros, who had two third period minors) is our key player and I need more from him that we saw tonight." Murray was fired less than a week later, June 13th. Ron Hextall made 23 saves in the loss. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoG9fkuiir4
  • June 7, 1997 -- In Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Red Wings won their first Stanley Cup since 1955 with a 2-1 victory. Nik Lidstrom scored with 33 seconds left in the opening period and Darren McCarty added a dramatic goal 13 minutes into the second period. Mike Vernon made 26 saves and the only shot to beat him was by Eric Lindros with 15 seconds to play in the third period. Ron Hextall also made 26 saves. Only six Flyers had points in the series: Rod Brind'Amour (3-1-4), John LeClair (2-1-3), Eric Lindros (1-2-3), Janne Niinimaa (0-3-3), Eric Desjardins (0-2-2) and Mikael Renberg (0-1-1). Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RT0avmpsKk
  • January 24, 1998 -- Brendan Shanahan scored with 3:13 to play and Chris Osgood made 20 saves in Detroit's 1-0 home win. Ron Hextall made 24 saves in defeat. The Flyers suffered their first lost while wearing black sweaters (sixth game). Philly fell to 3-17-4 in the last 24 (including playoffs) games in this series.
  • March 14, 1998 -- Alexandre Daigle recorded his second career hat trick and Ron Hextall made 24 saves in Philly's 6-1 home win. Eric Desjardins, Petr Svoboda and John LeClair each had three assists. Eight of the 17 points came from defensemen. The Flyers went 4-for-6 on the PP. It was the Flyers third game under head coach Roger Neilson. Chris Osgood surrendered six goals on 28 shots and was replaced by Norm Maracle who stopped both shots in his NHL debut.
  • October 1, 1998 -- In a preseason game at Detroit, Eric Lindros (2-2-4) factored in each goal and led the Flyers to a 4-2 victory. Lindros increased his point total to nine points in four preseason games. The Flyers scored two SHGs.
  • March 21, 1999 -- Eric Lindros' goal with 1:53 to play capped a terrific rally in the Flyers' 5-4 home win which ended a team-record 12-game (0-8-4) skid. Detroit led 4-2 on a SHG by Kris Draper early in the third period but Mark Recchi and Mikael Renberg scored to even the contest. John LeClair (1-2-3), in his first game after missing the prior four with a hip flexor, set up Lindros' GWG . Viktor Kozlov (1-2-3) and Brendan Shanahan (2-1-3) led Detroit and Shanahan got into a first period fight with Luke Richardson. It was the first time the Flyers beat Detroit in consecutive games since 1988. Eric Desjardins was helped off the ice with an ankle injury and missed the next seven games. Flyers' head coach Roger Neilson was serving the first game of a two-game suspension for a stick-throwing incident in a recent game against St. Louis.

  • March 28, 1999 -- Wendel Clark scored in OT to lift Detroit to a 3-2 home victory. Keith Jones' third period PPG evened the game 2-2. Vyacheslav Kozlov scored twice for the Red Wings. Detroit led 1-0 after two periods. Mikael Renberg, who had a game-high seven shots, tied the game in the third period 1-1. The Wings had a 4-0 shot advantage in the extra period. John Vanbiesbrouck made 27 saves, Chris Osgood stopped 23 shots. An apparent tying goal by Rod Brind'Amour was nullified midway through the second period when replays showed John LeClair had his skate in the crease.

  • September 18, 1999 -- In a preseason game at Philadelphia, the Red Wings recorded a 5-2 win. Eric Desjardins suffered a facial injury and missed the opening game of the regular season. Desjardins played in 99 of the Flyers 100 regular season and playoff games that season.
  • October 16, 1999 -- Despite 30 saves by John Vanbiesbrouck, the Red Wings beat the Flyers 3-2 in Detroit. Kris Draper and Doug Brown gave Detroit a 2-0 lead but Mark Recchi narrowed the deficit on a SHG. Vyacheslav Kozlov scored a key third period goal to give Detroit a 3-1 lead. Sergei Federov had two assists. Chris Osgood made 19 saves for the win.

2000s:
  • December 8, 2000 -- Steve Yzerman's (1-2-3) first goal in nearly nine months sparked Detroit to a 5-1 home win. Yzerman, in his third game back to the lineup since returning from knee surgery, gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead. Detroit was blanked in the prior two games, suffering consecutive shutouts for the first time in 10 years. Darren McCarty ended the skid when he tied the game 1-1 in the first period. Chris Osgood made 29 saves. Brian Boucher made 27 stops in the loss.
  • March 31, 2001 -- Kent Manderville snapped a third period scoreless tie and Roman Cechmanek backed Philadelphia's first shutout against Detroit in 61 games, dating to November 13, 1977, with a 1-0 performance in Philadelphia. The loss by Detroit was just the team's third defeat spanning the last 25 games. The Wings were out-scored in the third period for the first time in twenty games. Manderville, who once went 122 consecutive scoreless games, scored for the second time in the last three games and fourth time in the last month. "I'm just trying to chip in where I can," he said as he played a large role in the absence of injured Keith Primeau.

  • October 18, 2001 -- In a stunning defeat broadcast nationally on ESPN, the Flyers fell 3-2 in Detroit when the Red Wings scored twice in the final minute. After the Red Wings pulled goaltender Dominik Hasek with 1:17 to play in regulation, Sergei Fedorov beat Brian Boucher (34 saves) with 0:40 left then Brett Hull scored the GWG with 0:19 remaining. Jeremy Roenick and Marty Murray gave Philly one-goal leads sandwiched by a Luc Robitaille score. Detroit outshot Philly 37-21 including 29-9 over the last two periods.
  • January 11, 2003 -- In Philly's 3-2 home win, Roman Cechmanek made 21 saves, including two strong stops on Brendan Shanahan in the third period, a fabulous glove save on Brett Hull in the last minute and a chest save against Sergei Fedorov in the final moments. The Red Wings took a 1-0 lead but Radovan Somik responded just 15 seconds later Jeremy Roenick and Michael Handzus (1-1-2). Curtis Joseph made 26 saves in the loss.

  • February 29, 2004 -- Robert Lang had three assists in his Detroit debut and the Red Wings scored two PPGs in a 4-2 home win. Steve Yzerman (1-1-2) had the go-ahead goal. Manny Legace made 18 saves. Nicklas Lidstrom played in his 1,000th NHL game. Sean Burke made 23 saves for Philly.
  • January 12, 2006 -- The Flyers' NHL record-setting 11-game road trip ended with a 6-3 loss at Detroit. Philly totaled 17 points (8-2-1) on the trip. The Red Wings out-scored Philly 5-2 in a span of 13:55 in the third period. The Wings outshot Philly 41-20. The game was tied 1-1 after two periods but Chris Chelios scored a SHG at the 0:15 mark followed by Kirk Maltby's goal 31 seconds later. Dennis Seidenberg made it 3-2 and Simon Gagne (2-1-3) made it 4-3 but both goals were followed by scores from Henrik Zetterberg (2-2-4). Steve Yzerman moved past Gordie Howe for seventh place on the NHL's all-time list with 1,050 on the last goal.
  • February 12, 2007 -- In a national broadcast on Versus, the Flyers out-scored Detroit 5-0 in the third period en route to a 6-1 win in Philadelphia. The five goals came in a span of 10:45, including two by R.J. Umberger. The go-ahead goal came early in the third period on a 5-on-3 PPG by Peter Forsberg who played in his 100th and last regular season game as a Flyer as he was traded three days later. Forsberg was chosen the game's top star and won 15 of 20 faceoffs. Philly scored two SHGs. Michael Leighton, who appeared in the second of four games in his Flyers' career, made 31 saves opposite Joey McDonald for the Red Wings. Prior to the game, there was an emotional ceremony honoring the retired Keith Primeau (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKUaY...eature=related ). Game -- http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...3Aflyers&hl=en
  • March 17, 2009 -- The Red Wings rallied from a 2-0 deficit to record a 3-2 home win and improve to 14-0-2 in the last 16 meetings between these teams in Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk scored with 2:33 left in the second period then Johan Franzen and Henrik Zetterburg scored within 92 seconds midway in the third period. Martin Biron made 45 saves despite the loss. Chris Osgood made 24 saves for the victory. The Flyers led 2-1 after two periods despite being outshot 36-16. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wgxdNe82qQ

absolutely CANNOT wait for this game, and to hear the melodious tones of jim jackson and a fully-blitzed steve coates. go flyers.

on a side note, with that jersey tuck, JVR looks like the hands-down most awkward player i've seen in the O&B in a while. just sayin.

We got some goal scoring in the last one finally, now the boys just need to keep the other team from doing the same.

Not worried though, the lines will gel. Plus, 3 or 4 great players have sat out of every game so far.

Allright, there'll be an excellent stream tonight, you just need sopcast to watch it.

ya this stream is legit. And the reason why many may have to watch this is because I believe TCN is CN8 because of the Phillies, aka all Verizon Fios customers are ****ed. **** Comcast, I hope im wrong.

Sidenote: F comcast up the arse, the first 2 regular season games are on TCN aka old CN8. Why does Comcast think they will actually take back customers from Verizon Fios by doing this. They may get 45-75 house holds who actually switch back all year from this awful marketing strategy. They just make people not want there service even more.

any word on the lineups for tonite? pretty much all the players left on the roster are guys i really want to get a better look at. i think this game may be a nice look into the defense and the remaining winger spot after bell pretty much locked that 4th line center spot over the last few preseason games.

i for one buy cable for hbo and the flyers. the rest is just bonus. i think theres alot more people out there like me than you think. your average channell trolling couch potatoe probably doesnt care but for the target oriented consumer its a strategy that will work.
