David Desharnais climbing the depth chart big time!!

No one believed in this kid when we signed him but this kid is clearly making a statement at the camp after a solid season in the AHL.. Tonight he was outstanding, playing with alot of passion and poise, he is pretty tough to contain since his quick feet are always moving, great stickhandler, good vision, he never give up on any plays, does alot of little things impressingly well, he is IMO ahead of Maxwell in the depth chart and I expect an outstanding season in the AHL this year.. Bulldogs will have a pretty strong line-up, alot of hard work and skilled guys there..

In fact I was really impressed with alot of kids tonight, some of those guys are already playing a more solid game than some of our guys.. I think Sergei has to spend alot more time in the minors, the kid is clearly not ready for the NHL, way too soft and cant handle the NHL speed yet.. has to work on his weakness in the minors, I think a guy like Ryan White is more NHL ready than S.K.. Lats really desapointed me tonight , he is clearly the one that dragged the line down, this line has way much potential with MaxPac playing there, at least the kid has the speed to complete this line.. lats hits and hits pretty hard but most of the time his bodychecks have no influence on the game since the puck is already gone with the impact occur..

OByrne impressed me big time tonight, I thought he was outstanding, he really took his carreer seriously this summer, so I cant see any rookies making the team on D..

Watching Weber play you see that the kid has a very promising future, really close to be a NHLer..

I understand better the Gill signing, I liked his game tonight..

it was a very high peaced game, very few of our kids looked out of place..

Gionta is a tireless hard worker, unbelievable the level he competes, he plays BIG!!

There's no doubt he has been putting out a consistent effort.
That said, I can't see where we fit him and I can't see who we should trade to make a spot...I don't think he's quite there...nor are the habs in immediate need of his services.

Desharnais ain't better than Maxwell on the depth chart, Maxwell is way more talentend. Desharnais' skating is weak, he has great stick handling but he is easily pushed of the puck. He may turn to be a Brian Gionta type of player, but he would have to improve his stenght and skating.

I'm not saying that Maxwell sucks, but he's not "way more talented" than anyone.

Both are interesting prospects that are far from being sure of becoming regular nhlers one day.

I see Desharnais as a Center version of Brian Gionta. He needs to be thicker in his frame, and improve on his speed.

Ok this is perfect. now that David Desharnais has much much better value, lets trade him for a 1st rounder before his value goes down.

It is so sad this guy is that small. But his stats prove that he rapidly (on his second season in the LHJMQ) reached a plateau in that league, he then burned the ECHL, and was along with Maxwell the best scoring forward of the Bulldogs on his first season in the AHL. If we could merge the qualities of Chipchura and the ones of Desharnais, we would have an increadible player. Still, at this point, if Desharnais can add some weight, I could see him get a shot in the NHL on a scoring line. He might be a small Martin St-Louis in the making... but 5'6"... man, I haven't seen that since Theoren Fleury.

Gionta is listed at 5'7", but I think he may very well be only 5'6" as well.

First, yes he was good tonight, and is making is way up in the chart. Good job kiddo!

Second, Sergei is ready for the NHL. For a guy that just came off sergery, a long summer off, he did ok in my eyes.

Third, Lats needs confedence and I think playing with Lappy is a perfect match for him. Wen the pressure is on about scoring, he gets leed in his hands.

Fourth, O'Byrne has potential to be a top 4 easely and this year, he has a chance. The funny part is I see him paired with Gill. wow 6'6 and 6'7.

And last but not less, Gionta is groing on me big time. He is a fun to watch. High speed, high energie and crashing the net, the guy IS a hockey player!

You can't evaluate a player in one game. Yes is skating is weak and I've seen him play. He is gving everything, that's why he was good last night. You can't play like this a whole season. He has good puckhandling skills and goods dekes, yeah...

And for the guy who say that it's not sure Maxwell make the NHL one day, you are way off. Maxwell is not so small, is a good skater, nice vision, 2 way foward....He is NHL ready.

Ohhh i see, this comment was comming from someone who has a Bouillon avatar... Is bouillon still NHL material?

Michel Blanchard on cyberpresse says Demers said yesterday on RDS that it's a shame the habs scouts never drafted Deharnais, and that they clearly missed the boat on him.

To be honest I agree with all these comments except for the S. Kost ones. In the instances I've seen of him in the preseason, I've liked what I've seen.

That having been said, I can understand with Desharnais playing the way he has been why people would be less hyped on Kostitsyn or paying less attention to him. Desharnais was very very good, made a great impression last night especially. I don't know how we picked this kid up, but wherever it may have been it's looking like a steal already. GO HABS GO

I've been a fan of this kid for a few years now. He produces everywhere despite naysayers at every level. I hope he makes it into the Habs lineup at some point in the future.

Desharnais was very good last night, I could definitely see him as a call up this year if injuries occur. Him making Chara look like a fool was just the cherry on the cake.

Blanchard writes jingoist, ignorant column with no actual value.

Film at 11.

Note how he doesn't say who should get bumped off the roster to make room for him. That would require an awareness he simply can't be bothered with.

Maxwell has exquisite hockey sense and passing abilities. He is a very good 2 way player and obviously skates much better and will hopefully play at 200 lbs. He can play in the NHL on PK and PP already. He was a very good PP quarterback in Junior. He makes players around him better. Different positions but in Junior was in the Mike Green talent league. How is Des any better than Stephane Lebeau or Corey Locke? Skating is very important.

i really like desharnais. he has a lot of skill, great skater, puck handler and good hockey vision. Even though he is a little small for center he plays like a beast. i dont think he ll make the team right away but i see a prosperous future for this kid. I hope he develops well because he can be a great asset to our team in the future.

Desharnais didn't impress me. Because I knew he was good like this. I was really impressed when you guys made our top 20 prospects and Desharnais was at the end. IMO, he should be in the top 10 of our prospect.

I don't think he'll make it this year because there are too many players, so few spots. But he'll definitly make it next year.

AS much as I like O'Byrne I can't imagine playing him over Josh Gorges, which would be the case if you pair him with Gill. O'Byrne is our 7th d-man unless someone is gone...
