This is a plan I made about maximum expansion of the league to 24 teams. What are your thoughts?
I wondered why bigger cities in Quebec doesn't have teams anymore.
Telus West Division
Gatineau Olympiques Laval National (another name?)
Montréal Junior
Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Saint-Hyacinthe Laser (another name?)
Val d'or Foreurs
Not sure Acadie-Bathurst.
Is moving them outta the Atlantic Div a good idea? They are part of the 3 way Battle of New Brunswick.
Anyway, 24 teams is too many. Maybe 20 (not gonna pick teams other than a return to the Rock should be Courteau's priority )
The value of a Q franchise now is what $5 million. Big change from the $300,000 when the Mooseheads 1st started.
Would the value go down if too many expansion franchises were granted.

24 is definitely too many. Acadie Bathurst in Telus East, ouch! But I agree with you some cities should have Q team back; Granby, Sorel are among them....unfortunately, Sherbrooke sucks bad for hockey, the city is mostly students from UdeS, so =no$, plus why would I cheer for the city's team if I'm from Drummondville, Chicoutimi or Québec? doesn't make any sense. Plus, they seem to prefer junk hockey like LHNA. Oh, and Laval needs a new arena, but since Montreal Juniors decided to block Blainville and Joël Bouchard's group, you can forget Laval.
Not sure Acadie-Bathurst.

yea, but then there's the rumor that the AHL may land back in NFLD, Alpine, vis a vis JB + I don't see Lewiston anywhere which is another of Courteau's coup
St-Hyacinthe won't ever happen. I'm from there and that city sucks when it comes to sports (and many other things). No facilities for any sports except soccer. No arena either, and the current one can't get any expansion cause it's all wood. St-Hyacinthe is probably the worst city in Quebec when it comes to leadership and getting things done.
Granby... meh, can't see it happening, same with St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. All of their arena are too small, altough Granby could be expanded when I look at the structure.
Sherbrooke should be a Q market. The team just needs a good marketing plan. The arena needs slight modification to make it perfect. Plus, with the crowds that the St-François is getting, there's no way that city can't have a team once the LNAH folds. However, I've been told by somebody who lives there that people prefer pro hockey than junior hockey. But I still believe it's more of a marketing problem.
Trois-Rivières... it also needs a new arena, which is in talks. I believe the mayor talked about a 5000-6000 seats arena, and the city would support the team... but I don't see why Shawinigan wouldn't veto the move. With the progress the Cataractes have made with the crowds and as an organization, I bet they don't want to see anybody stepping in their territory.
There's always the possibility of Freddy Beach. Just the small matter of working out a lease with UNB to use the Aitken University Centre
Doubt the CIS champion UNB Varsity Reds would be overly excited about a Q team biteing into their 2,500 attendance though.
4 Q teams in NB would be a good rivilary.
The only cities that could take on the needs of the modern Q right now with no arena renovations or anything are Sherbrooke, St. John's and Fredericton. Anything else would need major construction or renovation.
The league shouldn't even look at expansion until they have stability in all their current franchises.
Baie Comeau had 1700 people for their home opener. That's awful. It's the second year in a row it happens. If people in Baie Comeau won't support their team, then it can easily move elsewhere. There was constant talk a few years ago of moving Bathurst.

Hey, be nice. Now that Courteau has lived his wet dream of getting a team in Montreal. He'll devote the same energy into getting a team back to St John's and making sure that Lewiston, Bathurst and PEI survive.
i was being nice alpine, one thing is for sure, seven years ago we knew absolutely nothing about the Q, the problem here (not the biggest) is that alot of people think it is just glorified high school hockey, and us diehard Q fans try to explain, taking ALL the allstars in our high schools wouldn't even stand a chance against even our Q team, won't even come watch. It still is a hard sell here, but given time (if we have it) we'll be fine.
