Goodness this Riley Emmerson guy is a 6-foot-8 and 250 pound winger. He was signed to an AHL contract today by the Oil for Springfield.
They just signed long time enforcer Kip Brennan last week. I guess the Falcons do not have to worry about having some muscle around to protect guys down there.
The Minnesota Wild sure do love to draft (Emmerson is a 2005 Wild pick) these big monster guys. They already had Boogaard at 6'7 and D man John Scott also at 6'7 in their system.
I don't think so. Considering his size, he doesn't look good at all in those fights and he didn't look any better in the other fights I watched. He'd get destroyed in the NHL. With his size and weight he should be considered a super heavyweight. He's probably bigger than MacIntyre. I wouldn't like his chances against Theo Peckham and he's a light heavyweight.
I'm not very impressed by that video at all. Seems like an enforcer for Stockton as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah he could very well end up in Stockton. The signing went up first on the Falcons site. So I am sure he will get at least some serious consideration there. He played in the AHL last season but the ECHL before that.
Your comment reminds me of a couple seasons ago. You put up a video of Theo Peckham in a couple altercations. That were not overly impressive and then you got a little annoyed with Guy Flaming and others that said they were not very impressed with it. So we will have to see how it works out.

The difference being that I saw the majority of his AHL fights. This guy is big, doesn't have fast hands, nor does he seem to have great power. Not every big guy is a MacIntyre, Boogard, etc. Time will tell the story but I was far from impressed from those 2 fights. And they certainly didn't warrant still shots from the fight at least IMO.

He looks like he can put up some really solid punches, but not throughout the entire fight. His hulking frame would problem instate some fear in the boards anyways.

If he can skate, and his size in his fights only means something if he knows how to use it. Could be to help Maslonka in the ECHL if he's still our property or at least property of Stockton.

I think you may have missed my point though. You were annoyed because just from a couple short clips they decided Peckham was pretty unimpressive as a fighter / physical player or at least appeared that way.
That is all I am saying really. As you might very well be right and the guy might end up being nothing more than ECHL cannon fodder. But I'll wait until I see a much larger sample size before deciding. I remember digging up last camp a couple youtube vids of McMorrow vs. Boogaard and Booger looked pretty unimpressive in those fights. McMorrow was even rag-dolling him at times. But I know better that those youtube vids definitely did not tell the whole story on Boogaard.
Either way I think Kip Brennan can handle the job with an assist from guys like Nickerson etc... if he needs it. So they are covered in Springie IMO either way.
On a side note I thought a couple of those punches he threw had decent power in them actually.

I get the point but he is grossly overmatching the other guy in terms of size, doesn't use his reach well, etc. I didn't see much power there, but unless you're eating them it's tough to tell. If someone would like to dig up fights where this guy seems like a good fighter, I'm open to seeing them and possibly changing my opinion, IMO it doesn't matter as he likely won't even be in Springfield IMO.
k I realize goons don't get much playing time and for good reason. but its amazing this guy got drafted imo. and the smack is listed as a defensemen on there so no wonder he didn't get points, jokes.

I agree Bryan. The video in this thread is one of the least impressive examples of a fighter I have seen. I also looked at some of his other fights and they are very unimpressive as well.
Big man...very average to below average fighter.
Not a signing thats going to make a difference one way or another.
I guess most people do not understand the maturation of Fighters. They take a long time to develop because
They tend to not be very good skaters and thus are liabilities on the Ice
and
they need to learn how to fight again at every level. You could just dominate in Junior because you were bigger than everyone else. Stortini was a dominate junior fighter in the OHL.

Well if you think it is funny based on his WHL scoring stats. That Riley Emmerson was drafted in the 7th round.
Then check out this link. It will have you laughing so hard your sides will hurt when you realize this fellow was drafted in the 3rd round a few months ago:
