Akim Aliu: What can be expected of him?

Really excited to see this former Wolves player join the proffessional ranks. Has shown great potential but needs to put it all together and work on the mental aspect of the game. What can be expected for Akim this upcoming season?

He'll most likely be on Rockford getting top-6 minutes. I'd love to have him on the team, but there's really no roster space for him. We have Burish, Brouwer, Kopecky, Eager, and Fraser all competing for the 3 fourth line spots. He might get an 8 game tryout. Chances are he ends up in Rockford for the year though. I expect him to put up some good numbers in Rockford this year. My guess is somewhere around 30 G, 30 A. He definitely fits into the future of this team.

I'm interested in seeing what he does in camp, he could force his way onto the team.

I have been watching this kid since day one in Jr

If you haven't heard already controversy is the kid's middle name

He started out with that whole kerfuffle in Windsor of the OHL with Downey (gold plated jerk that kid). Then there was the whole hazing thing. He was dealt off to Sudbury which is way off the beaten track> He had his run-ins with Foligno who was the coach there

he was dealt to London of the OHL and played a year and a half for the Hunter bros (his longest stretch with one team). Very talented kid who makes life very difficult for himself in my opinion. I always liked the kid but he antagonized so many authority figures (including refs) that he drew attention to himself for all the wrong reasons

London dealt him BACK to Sudbury because quite frankly he creates a distraction with his tilts with authority figures. generally he is a good kid but he keeps getting in crap situations because of this whole discipline thing

Talented kid, but I have to tell you the odds are long that he changes his attitude.

Unfortunate because he can be impressive. I think chicago should let him prove hinself in Rockford first

When he got dealt to Sudbury the first time around, he eventually ended up in the doghouse for taking a horrible unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. He eventually got another shot as a grinder in the playoffs and he really seemed to embrace his role. That's how I see his role on the Hawks, like Gare Joyce said "a soldier, not a star", at least at the beginning.

In prospect camp two years ago, Aliu and Toews really seemed to hit it off well. Aliu was asking him questions every chance he got and, although I don't know anything about what was said, he really seemed to look up to JT. I'm sort of hoping that will set the tone for the future; Aliu not having to fight the world anymore and becoming a solid soldier and part of the team.
