Very bad decision. They should have traded him.

this is a very 1 dimensional team and sadly that one dimension is not scoring but "grit" which will make for nice entertainment but is not the right recipe for winning IMO
And who were our playmakers last season? Naslund? Gomez with his 58 pts? we still managed to have 5 20 goal scorers.

Can we have a do-over on the Tyutin trade? I call Mulligan! lol
The proper mulligan would be used on the Redden signing. If we don't sign Redden on July 1st, we don't trade Tyutin for Zherdev on July 2nd.

Perhaps nobody wanted to trade anything to get him. Every team knew that Sather was backed in a corner. Why trade anything when he was likely to become an UFA. I wouldn't trade any assets to get Zherdev at $3.9 million when he is most likely going to be an UFA in short order.

Enjoy playing back home in Russia with your friend Radulov.

Or maybe you expect too much from him? He's scored 20 every season he's been in the NHL except one.

I know, he traded Christian Backman away for nothing. That in of itself made it a great trade.

Still, sucks to have nothing to show for Tyutin.

Slats loathes getting beat in a trade...there was no good deal out there for Z

He felt the cap space alone was the best fit for the team.

and sadly - I don't think 20 will be enough from him to make us anything to worry about this year

Not shocked. Whatever one thinks of Torts--he is the coach and if he's not going to get along with a guy who is about to get $3.9 mil--there is no point in having him. Zherdev may be able to hook on somewhere else. I don't know but I'm skeptical he'll get the $3.9 that the arbitrator decided on.

Time to move on--use the extra space to fill a hole--maybe at D. Potential rookies coming to camp now will not have to worry that their contract might be to big for them to have a chance.

Before coming here I checked in on Carpinello's blog and he lambasted Zherdev for not competing. It's not a secret that a lot of people don't think he gave his all.

I am going to wait and see what Sather does before I pass judgement but as far as Zherdev going, I am fine with it. I was never really a fan of him anyway and wish we still had Tyutin but that is the way things work. Lets see what Sather does now as I am sure he has a plan B, especially if he knew this was going to be the most likely occurrence.
