Meszaros got hit with a puck in the face.
Got a bunch of stitches and fractured some bone in his face, also his teeth moved a little.
Wanted to come back that game but docs wouldn't let him.
Played the next game when no one expected him to be able to.
Disregard the last 3 years of watching him flounder around the ice and stagnate. Base all your opinions of his future on this one fluff story.
Meszaros got hit with a puck in the face.

A little more serious then that.
Quote:
After being struck in the face Meszaros went straight to the doctor's office in the Lightning medical room. There he was diagnosed with a displaced fracture of the maxilla extending from just above his upper teeth to his nose. By appearance you could see that his teeth were out of alignment with the right side of his face compressed inward. Basically a portion of that maxilla bone had been pushed back into his mouth by the impact of the puck. In simple terms, the teeth, and the bone holding them, on the right side of his mouth had been pushed behind those on the left side.
All the tools, no tool box to put them in. Didn't have the necessary top level hockey sense needed to be a successful defenseman at this level. Last time I checked all top pairing defensemen weren't defensive liabilities that ran around like chickens with their heads chopped off. He's a less talented version of Dion Phaneuf, wonderful talent but doesn't know how to use it. He's hit the top of his game, he won't get better unless he wakes up one morning knowing how to play defense.
Meh, I was a Mesz fan and sad to see him go, but no one can doubt the return we got filled a much larger need. We aquired 3 defenceman that will be in our top seven next season if everything goes as planned.
Unless Meszaros breaks out and becomes a top 20 defenceman in the league (I doubt he's even a top forty) then we won this deal hands down.
Maybe if they put him with Ohlund things will turn around. Otherwise he's going to continue to digress until Hedman's ready. Really foolish trade by TB to let Boyle go, then acquire Meszaros.
And a warrior? It's cool what he did, but I don't regard Mez as a warrior. Lazy comes to mind actually.

Pfft, if Fisher had to go through this, you would be building a shrine in his honour and calling him the very best warrior in the NHL.
Fisher would never have to go through that. Fisher's face is way too tough to be fractured by a puck. The puck would probably have been fractured by Fisher's face.
If Murray had traded for him, he'd be the second coming of Bobby Orr.
I kinda wish he was re-signed, but I also like Kuba, so I can't complain.
He wanted more than 4M, why overpay for him when you can get more than he is worth in a trade?
Murray got a better defenseman in return in Kuba who he re-signed for less than Mezzy, a puckmover with top 4 potential in Picard and a promising defenseman in Campoli who could be a top 4 defenseman as soon as next season.
theres a fine line between bravery and foolishness...
im guessing this is what happened... "Going berserk refers to an overdose of adrenaline-induced opioids in the human body and brain leading a soldier to fight with fearless rage and indifference"
meszaros does not play like a warrior... he's softer than mashed potatoes on the ice most of the time
picard was injured for a while, and is still pretty young. so it's tougher to gauge his potential/value.
Yeah. I'm just not a big fan. He didn't show much when he was healthy last year.

I think that's the big thing. People are judging the trade way too quickly. The trade will really show a winner in the next couple years when we see how Meszaros and to a lesser extent Picard and Campoli turn out.

Thing is, Meszaros wont be needed by us in a few years. We needed bodies now, and Kuba, Campoli, Picard are a hell of a lot better than Meszaros, Schubert...Bell?
I agree though, at this point in time it's been a good trade. But that's almost entirely because of Kuba, and to a lesser extent Campoli.
I said potential to be top 4, but it isn't crazy to think that Campoli could be one as soon as next season
Had 30 points last season, on pace for 53 points last season if he played the whole season in Ottawa. Is it out of the question to think he can't put up 35 points as our PP QB while not being terrible defensively?
I love Picard's shot. He has a great wrist shot and his slapshot isn't anything to laugh at either but he has the rare ability to get it to the net, which seperates a player like Meszaros from a top PP QB.
Wow. Professional sports athlete gets hurt and comes back and plays the next game. The day the earth stood still.
Get over it. This stuff happens all the time in lots of sports, only thing is that most sports franchises are not so hard up for fans that they don't have to exploit their player injuries to get people to know the roster. You want to talk about sports warriors, talk to guys like Dick Butkus and Mike Ditka, they will tell you football injury stories you wouldn't believe.
If you love the guy so much, please emulate him and go away. Sens fans around here will be double delighted to have you both gone.
